Anthony Davis Injury: Updates on Pelicans Star's Shoulder and Return
New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis exited Wednesday's game against the Dallas Mavericks with a sprained left shoulder.
The NBA on ESPN reported the news on Twitter as Davis headed back to the locker room, and Dwain Price of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram noted that Davis would not return for the rest of the game at American Airlines Center: Davis had logged 13 minutes and made just three out of nine shots from the floor for six points, but he was wreaking his usual havoc on defense—pulling down nine rebounds and blocking two shots in his limited action on the court. The 6'10" forward could still stand to add some bulk to his lanky frame, as he's had trouble staying healthy since being drafted No. 1 overall in 2012 by New Orleans. The 20-year-old former University of Kentucky phenom has as much upside as any big man in the NBA, but he missed 18 games as a rookie and has sat out eight contests in the 2013-14 campaign thus far. Much of the Pelicans' success in the coming years hinges on Davis as the marquee cornerstone, but he has to be in uniform on a more consistent basis for that bright future to materialize.
