Re: What sports to watch Wednesday night: Greg Monroe, Detroit Pistons meet New Orleans Pelicans
Tigers and Pels play BBall tonight. Do the Tigers have a chance to make the dance? I can't help but look to next year for LSU Basketball, when Ben Simmons, the nation's best high school player, a 6"10 point guard, is wearing purple and gold. The Pels sure do anyway. The Pelicans have a great chance. In fact, I'd now say the Pelicans are the favorite to get the eighth seed if not higher. Quincy Pondexter was a great addition and Norris Cole has been an immediate difference-maker. Both are serious hustlers on the defensive end. Pondexter has a nice three point shot and is a solid ball handler. Norris Cole is very explosive to the basket and can shoot the ball too. I hope Cole is a Pelican for life. He reminds me of Russel Westbrook and he is already taking on the role of a team leader. Luke Babbit has played super in Davis absence and Ajinca is getting better every game. Ajinca is becoming a legit scoring threat, and is holding his own on defense and rebounding. When Davis returns, Babbit's outshide shot will be even more open, and in light of Babbit's recent performances, I forsee Davis and our guards looking for him more and more. Babbit is a lights-out three point shooter, making nearly 50% of his threes on the season and has also shown that he can put the ball on the floor, hit the mid-range jumper and post up as well. Some good signings, a couple players improving their play and Eric Gordon returning to his sharp-shooting ways means first of all, that the Pelicans are a team that can really shoot the basketball and consistently scores a lot of points. Plus, the signings of Cole, Pondexter and Cunningham significantly improved the Pelicans team defense and Anthony Davis fellow Pelicans now are ready to compliment him perfectly. When AD comes back, the Pelicans are gonna be very tough to beat and are going to play the rest of the season at a very high level. They will easily make the playoffs, and I believe this team can win it all this year and It's still possible that they will. Go PELICANS!
