Anthony Davis Contract: Latest News and Rumors on Negotiations with Pelicans

Anthony Davis established himself as one of the NBA's preeminent superstars during the 2014-15 season. Now the New Orleans Pelicans will likely be looking to lock him up to a long-term contract this summer.

Continue for updates.

Pelicans Hoping to Extend Davis Immediately

Monday, June 29

According to John Reid of the Times-Picayune—and to the surprise of absolutely no one—the Pelicans are expected to make "an assertive push to sign star power forward Anthony Davis to a five-year extension that exceeds $143 million starting on July 1."

Davis, 22, averaged an impressive 24.4 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.9 blocks in 36.1 minutes per game this past season. The third-year superstar has continued to improve too, increasing his averages in all three stats in each of his first three campaigns in the league.

It remains to be seen if Davis will choose to wait until the new television contract with the NBA kicks in next summer and increases the salary cap. Regardless, as T.J. Beisner of MyCN2.com noted, Davis is going to be a very rich man:

The bigger question for Davis, then, might be whether he feels the Pelicans can build a championship-caliber roster around him. The team did make the postseason this year and has nice pieces, but Davis may decide to see what the front office does for another year before deciding to commit to the organization long term.

Given that the Pelicans will likely do anything to keep him in New Orleans, however, don't expect him to end up elsewhere for many years to come.
