Tyreke Evans Injury: Updates on Pelicans Guard's Knee and Return

Evans Doubtful to Return

Wednesday, Jan. 13

It's been a frustrating 2015 for Evans, who was forced to miss the first 17 games of the seasonafter undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee just a week before the beginning of the regular season.

Since his return, Evans has taken over starting duties at shooting guard, averaging 16.7 points. He's been a bit rusty, and head coach Alvin Gentry knew he had to make adjustments.

"The thing that we're trying to make (Evans) understand is that, when he gives it up, we're going to give it back to him," he told the Advocate's Brett Dawson. "He wants the ball moving from one side of the floor to the other via passes, rather than having a single player dribble the ball for seconds at a time."

But Evans said the plan "kind of messed my rhythm up a little bit."

New Orleans has struggled mightily this season with an 11-26 record in the Western Conference. But now it'll have to try to stay afloat again without one of its best scorers.

The Pelicans have Eric Gordon and Jrue Holiday to step in and split time while Evans recovers. Gordon, one of New Orleans' top scorers, can play at both point guard and shooting guard to support the Pelicans' backcourt that will once again have to wait for Evans to heal from an injury.
