Tyreke Evans Injury: Updates on Pelicans Guard's Recovery from Knee Surgery
New Orleans Pelicans combo guard Tyreke Evans is still recovering from knee surgery he underwent in February and remains without a definitive return date.
Continue for updates. Evans to Miss Beginning of Regular Season Saturday, July 16 Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry stated on ESPN's Zach Lowe's podcast, The Lowe Post, that Evans is still rehabbing his knee and won't be ready to start the season, per the Advocate's David Fisher: Evans missed the first 17 games of the 2015-16 season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. He then dealt with tendinitis in the same knee in late January and early February. "I've got to monitor it more for his own protection," Gentry said in January when the tendinitis flared up, per the Times Picayune's John Reid. "He is the type of guy (that's) going to get out there and try to play. If it's hurting him, then we just got to limit his minutes. If he's sitting out, he's sitting out." During his career, Evans has averaged 16.7points, 4.9rebounds and 5.3assists. The Western Conference reloaded this offseason, with the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs looking to be heavy favorites for the 2017 Western Conference Finals. It will be difficult for the Pelicans to make much noise if their top stars aren't able to stay healthy, as Evans and superstar Anthony Davis failed to finish the 2015-16 season healthy.
