Lance Stephenson Injury: Updates on Pelicans Star's Recovery from Groin Surgery
Lance Stephenson's resurrection with the New Orleans Pelicans has hit a snag, as the star forward suffered a groin injury that will require surgery, according to the team.
Continue for updates. Stephenson Out Indefinitely Saturday, Nov. 5 "An MRI performed today confirmed the injury," the team said in a statement. "A timetable for his return will be announced at a later date." After a poor start to last season, Stephenson seemed to find himself after being dealt to the Memphis Grizzlies. He did not fit in with the Los Angeles Clippers, averaging just 4.7 points in 43 games and playing just 15.8 minutes per game. With the Grizzlies, though, Stephenson approached the lofty heights he once displayed in Indiana with 14.2 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. He was unable to parlay those numbers into a contract until the Pelicans came calling in September. Through six games in the Big Easy, Stephenson has averaged 9.7 points and 4.8 assists while shooting 47.3 percent from the field. Taking Stephenson out of the mix leaves the Pelicans in a bind. Tyreke Evans (knee) and Quincy Pondexter (knee) are both still sidelined, which has left Dante Cunningham as one of the team's few viable wing alternatives. An already steep climb for the Pelicans out west has been made even more challenging, especially if Stephenson's injury lingers throughout the year.
