Re: Kevin Durant says he intends to skip White House visit: ESPN
I remember when the Bruins won the Stanley Cup some years back, and their goalie, Tim Thomas, decided not to go. He never stated anything to do with Obama being his reason. He said he was fed up with the federal government and that it had grown out of control, and that this was happening on BOTH sides, so he decided to exercise his right to not go. Yet, he was chastised mercilessly for it and accused of being petty and a bad teammate, over what peopled assumed was a beef with Obama, and Obama alone.
But whereas Thomas didn't try to make a big scene about it and tried to make his decision as respectfully as he could, here you have Durant openly admitting that he wants to avoid the President, and he will naturally be applauded by the media and told "way to make a stand", all because President Trump isn't "their guy". But Tim Thomas remains some kind of villain or pariah in the eyes of the media. The lines aren't even remotely blurred. There is a clear double standard that only an outright liar could deny. |
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.
