this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I believe This team has tried to carry Brees as much as possible the last few years, but he could never pull his own weight. He cannot throw more than 20 yards, if you want to get to a SB ...

Might make ppl angry but here it is
I believe This team has tried to carry Brees as much as possible the last few years, but he could never pull his own weight.
He cannot throw more than 20 yards, if you want to get to a SB you have to take a deeper passing game, otherwise you get teams like Philly, LV, and now Tampa that just cover up to the sticks knowing Brees is not going 20+ yards down the field. Essentially him sticking around has cost us 2 chances in 4 years at a SB. Want proof? Look at the last several playoff games. We have never gotten to score more than 23 pts in any of them and relied on defense to try and hold the opponent under. His decision to come back this year cost us this year, why? He wanted to compete with Tom Brady who apparently is in better shape than Drew is. If drew stayed away, Tom comes to New Orleans and we probably be in the nfccg maybe even at home. Drew has caused the offense in the playoffs to go completely anemic which is what i feared and saw it vs Chicago and knew what was to come against Tampa. Thats my 2 cents. No way im wanting Jameis or Taysom in with the turnovers, but it couldn’t of been worse last night had Taysom been in there. Jameis got as much yards in 1 play than Drew could get on 3 drives. Thats my rant. |

Re: Might make ppl angry but here it is
That's what so great about this country or at least what used to be is that everyone is entitled to their opinion and can express it at anytime. No one has to agree with it but I'm sure several will. Injuries to multiple people have cost us in the playoffs. Longest pass Brady completed Sunday was 16 yards. Not having Murray, Hill and a hobbled Thomas with a bad ankle who couldn't make clean breaks is what cost us. It is almost certain next year we won't have Brees so I can't wait to hear the reasoning if we don't make the playoffs next year.

Who knows what the future will bring? Not me for sure, but I’ll be critical of any QB who performs like our starting QB did this past Sunday. Simple as that. |

Agreed GoSaints1 …
4 turnovers in a playoff game? Who are you defeating ? No one. I hope Sean Payton gets away with the "dink and dunk" (assuming Brees is done) going forward. Gotta stretch the field. Todd Bowles stacked the box and dared us to go deep. |

And as far as his coming back cost the team a couple of Superbowl appearances, I disagree. We don't know for sure the QB situation would have been any better. This team has not drafted QBs well recently and we can't assume we would have landed any free agent QB. |

I agree, and have made similar comments in other posts.
I would argue Drew has been the one holding the team back for at least the last 2 years, potentially 3. I have debated many on this forum for years regarding Drew's ability to throw the deep ball. I think it's interesting to bring up Brady coming to NOLA... had Drew retired like he should have, Tom likely would have come here. I am not going to look now, but I recall reading some articles about his interest in working with Payton. |

Your so right john, between salary cap problems and Drew's departure , this team will probably experience a playoff drought for several years. Get ready for the Pre Drew version of the New Orleans saints |
