How long will Payton hang around post Drew Brees?

This isn’t a fire Payton thread, god knows we need him more now than ever. If Drew retires how long do you think Payton will stick around? We all know about our cap situation and this will definitely be a rebuilding era for us. Does Payton have it in him to start over here in New Orleans? I’m sure there other teams out there that are a head coach and a couple players away from being contenders who would break the bank for him.
If he leaves in the next couple years to you promote from within and give DA another shot as a head coach? Anyone else?
I don’t see Payton hanging around much longer honestly.

Payton has the support of ownership and a strong executive team around him. Unless he’s looking for a different challenge I think he stays. I believe we’re one solid draft class from being in the playoffs.

The latest extension former Super Bowl winning coach Sean Payton signed with the Saints is one of the largest among coaches of North American professional sports, league sources said.

Payton's annual compensation reaches the range of $13 million per year in the deal, I'm told, shattering what had been a $10 million ceiling of sorts for the bulk of NFL coaches.

Payton, long-coveted by other owners in the event he were to leave New Orleans and the subject of potential trades in the past, is now bound to the Saints through the 2024 season. He and general manager Mickey Loomis have significant power, with owner Gayle Benson putting the franchise essentially in their hands on a daily basis, and are trying to win another Super Bowl before franchise quarterback Drew Brees retires. >>CBS Sports

Sean’s probably been fantasizing about this scenario for years. He knows what it will do for his coaching legacy if he can keep the Saints afloat and competitive after Brees retires. His ego is way too big to not embrace the opportunity to look like a genius.

Agreed. This is Payton's chance to prove he can win without Brees. I think he relishes that challenge.

I think he is looking forward to sticking around and grooming a qb.

Like others have said, Payton will give his praise and she’s some tears, but ultimately I think he is ready and excited for what’s next.

I think he definitely wants to continue the bromance with Kamara and Michael Thomas, and figure out the QB situation as we go.

3 years minimum IMO. When he came here he had a "5 year plan" and got us to the playoffs early. I think Sean would love nothing more than to solidify this team without Drew, and I don't think he's going anywhere until he does. Just my .02.

Very good point.

So Bill Belichick is probably up there in the same ego class as SP.
Belichick let's Tom Terrific walk and how did that all work out for the Patriots.

Oh right the simple genius signed Cam.
Patriots 2020 record 7-9.

This is a drivers question and unless you know Sean Paytons drivers its impossible to answer with any logic.

Folks, Payton isn't going anywhere! Ownership loves him and pays him well. He has put together a strong staff that will need to be restocked after we get raided for coaches. He is basically autonomous. Why would he leave? Every year this question comes around and Payton just keeps coming back. Let the rumors die folks....Please.

I was with you the first half of your comments but you kinda derailed me when the Payton leaving started. Ain’t Sean’s fault his teams have failed him. Can’t be easy to give walking papers to an aging future HOF QB. But that’s what Sean’s been dealing with the last few seasons. But if he had a time machine, he probably would have cut bait with Drew and brought in a guy like Matt Stafford.
Imagine Stafford in this offense the last four seasons. Minimum 2 Lombardi’s. Don’t believe me, only took Tampa one season bringing in Brady and now they have a shot.
Drew’s done, has been for quite some time.

As for the DA part of your question Dude I would go a different route. A young, offensive mind would be may target. If Behinemy (Spelling) hadn’t got a shot yet I’d look there.

We have been one of the most successful teams in the league over the last 4 years and it wasn’t until this offseason that coaches and members of the FO started leaving in droves. Makes you wonder. Sure we lose one or two a year maybe but some have chosen to stay instead of taking a job that may have been a step up. This year it kinda seems like they are jumping ship.

They may be jumping ship for a better job but it's not because we are sinking. They are leaving in droves because they've done a good job and the league sees it.

Payton will hang around 10 more years and win 7 more Super Bowls post Drew Brees.

Is this a serious question Dude? Not sure why you are asking this.

LOYALTY!
LOYALTY?
THERE'S NO LOYALTY IN THE NFL!!!

taking a job that may have been a step up.
Position coach to Head Coach and Defensive coodinator, assistant to GM "MAY HAVE BEEN A STEP UP!!" No "MAY HAV BEEN" AKA "SHOULD'A"

Another company comes to you and offers you a substantial increase in pay and perks. What you gonna do?

Re: How long will Payton hang around post Drew Brees?

Look around this league coaches get 5 year contracts and are fired after 2 years , so when they come a courting Payton ; you match the price and up the pay because it’s hard to win in this nfl today. Mickey and Payton have ownership of this team in a trusted way from benson, so why leave . U want to go to Jerry world and get owned or Houston Detroit, hell no
