How long will Payton hang around post Drew Brees?
This isn’t a fire Payton thread, god knows we need him more now than ever. If Drew retires how long do you think Payton will stick around? We all know about our cap situation and this will definitely be a rebuilding era for us. Does Payton have it in him to start over here in New Orleans? I’m sure there other teams out there that are a head coach and a couple players away from being contenders who would break the bank for him.
If he leaves in the next couple years to you promote from within and give DA another shot as a head coach? Anyone else? I don’t see Payton hanging around much longer honestly. |

Payton has the support of ownership and a strong executive team around him. Unless he’s looking for a different challenge I think he stays. I believe we’re one solid draft class from being in the playoffs.

Re: How long will Payton hang around post Drew Brees?
The latest extension former Super Bowl winning coach Sean Payton signed with the Saints is one of the largest among coaches of North American professional sports, league sources said.
Payton's annual compensation reaches the range of $13 million per year in the deal, I'm told, shattering what had been a $10 million ceiling of sorts for the bulk of NFL coaches. Payton, long-coveted by other owners in the event he were to leave New Orleans and the subject of potential trades in the past, is now bound to the Saints through the 2024 season. He and general manager Mickey Loomis have significant power, with owner Gayle Benson putting the franchise essentially in their hands on a daily basis, and are trying to win another Super Bowl before franchise quarterback Drew Brees retires. >>CBS Sports |

Sean’s probably been fantasizing about this scenario for years. He knows what it will do for his coaching legacy if he can keep the Saints afloat and competitive after Brees retires. His ego is way too big to not embrace the opportunity to look like a genius.

Agreed. This is Payton's chance to prove he can win without Brees. I think he relishes that challenge.

I think he is looking forward to sticking around and grooming a qb.

Like others have said, Payton will give his praise and she’s some tears, but ultimately I think he is ready and excited for what’s next.

3 years minimum IMO. When he came here he had a "5 year plan" and got us to the playoffs early. I think Sean would love nothing more than to solidify this team without Drew, and I don't think he's going anywhere until he does. Just my .02.
