How many want a healthy Brees back next year?
With the 'revelation' that Brees was playing hurt for most of the year, if Brees was fully healed and could make all the throws, would you want him back?
|
Re: How many want a healthy Brees back next year?
I have no interest of delaying the inevitable. Let's start working on the future.

Re: How many want a healthy Brees back next year?
Brees is a soldier. He has nothing left to prove. It's been a great ride, thanks for the SB trophy. Time for Drew to enjoy his family.
All these injuries have taken it's toll. Move on and start your next career in the broadcasting booth. |

All day, every day and twice on Sunday’s, lol..., But I haven’t thought Brees could make “ALL” the throws for a few years now. Regardless of injuries. |
Re: How many want a healthy Brees back next year?
All the throws...here lies the issue. Even with a good shoulder he could not make all of them over the last few years.
It's hard to let go but it's time to look towards the future while we have young talent on both sides the ball. |
Re: How many want a healthy Brees back next year?
Yes, but he won’t stay that way so no.
|
Re: How many want a healthy Brees back next year?
Time to move on, but I would not be completely against bringing a healthy Brees back for the last 6 to 8 games of the season as an insurance policy if the Saints are in contention.
|
Re: How many want a healthy Brees back next year?
Time to move on. Brees was great, but was also done a few years ago.
As papz said, delaying the inevitable. Let's just appreciate what he did for the last 15 years and move on with a young QB to build around. |

Re: How many want a healthy Brees back next year?
Brees' is my favorite football player so it's not comfortable for me to say that it's time to move on. I think that for him the spirit is willing but the body is weak. He's got money coming to him in a desk job so why would he come back?
How great would it be to see him on the Saints sideline as a QB coach? |
Re: How many want a healthy Brees back next year?
If you where talking about the Brees of 2017 then yes, 100%, a 2 year extension and spread the money over the cap. The arm strength wasn't 2009-2011 but more than good enough. The last 2 years its not been there and the great accuracy can't cover that up.
He is a true living legend, but its time to move on |

Re: How many want a healthy Brees back next year?
I agree with the majority here. After seeing the end of the game with Brees walking off the field and him playing on the field with his kids, it's time for closure - for him more than us. The last game may have been a sour note, but he can apply that get-even to his next passion - broadcasting or whatever.

Re: How many want a healthy Brees back next year?
Absolutely. Drew is still our best option. Only issue is the wr position. MT has become a cancer and we have all heard rumors of his trade. Cooks catches on avg 1 out of every 92 balls thrown to him. Trade MT, pay drew significantly less and get him another ring. Resign those needed and bring in some wr help.

He used to destroy teams that played zone coverage, especially cover 2 with seam routes. That part of his game have been non existent the last 3 years. |
Re: How many want a healthy Brees back next year?
I’d say yes get us back to playoffs then retire with 70,000 fans crying. He’s done guys next man up,
Ps has anyone checked on AG, what’s his take on Brees Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: How many want a healthy Brees back next year?
He's 42, 13 anchors in his shoulder, strap on his throwing thumb, rotator cuff (those rarely heal), 11 ribs, etc. I wish he could but don't think he will ever be "healthy" as a QB again. It kind of started with the pulled oblique a few years ago. He would make one heck of a back up QB for us but I don't think his mindset would allow him to take on the role.

Re: How many want a healthy Brees back next year?
I agree with most of the people here. The team has done what they could the pass few years to try to give brees as much talent around him as he's ever had (offense and defense).
However, it's not enough anymore. Even when he's 100% healthy he can no longer make the downfield throws. It started 3-4 years ago when he could still get the ball downfield but the accuracy on those throws was declining. Now, getting the ball more than 20 yards downfield is a struggle and requires our receivers to dive or stop entirely to catch his dying passes. Then there is the inevitable health issues where he's missing multiple games every year now due to injuries. That's why the organization has really been prioritizing known quantities at the backup qb spot There's also the other elephant in the room. Brees has not had an exceptional game in the playoffs for some time now. He's has some ok to good games but nothing too noteworthy. Brees will forever be my favorite football player for reasons on and off the field but it's time he accepts the handshake from father time on a job well done and move on. |

Teams can condense the field so much knowing the don't have to worry about anything over the Safety. If he plays on i think you'll see what you saw of Peyton Manning at the end. |
Re: How many want a healthy Brees back next year?
For the sake of his safety and health, I hope he retires.

Re: How many want a healthy Brees back next year?
It's time.....you don't want to be like the last guy left on SNL whose been there forever, with an entire new cast and you look at him and say, damn he stayed one year too long. uncomfortable, maybe somewhat awkward.

Re: How many want a healthy Brees back next year?
I don't, but not because I don't think he can still QB a higher level than most QB's, even while I freely admit his skills are not what they used to be. I don't really want to watch him out there getting beat up. God bless his toughness, and frankly I'm in awe of it. I had a rib bruise once and sitting in a chair really friggin hurt but playing a contact sport on top of his other hurts? I'd love another Lombardi like everyone on this site, and I'm sure Drew would as well but I'd rather see Drew have a good quality of life when it's over. He's got nothing to prove to me, and honestly I never though the Saints would even see a SB much less win one. I'm not greedy.

Re: How many want a healthy Brees back next year?
I don't do Fantasy Football. [But I am real OK with those that do.]
And with what else is going on, I try (but do not always succeed) to block out fantasy. Onward and Upward. :bng: |
Re: How many want a healthy Brees back next year?
If the reason Brees couldn't get the ball down the field was because of his rotator cuff and he can come back healthy then I'm all for it. If he can't get the ball down the field due to age, I think he should retire. I have no idea which is the truth, hence I have no clue whether he should retire. Regardless we should be trying to find a QB. If we can get someone like Deshaun Watson, then goodbye Brees regardless. cause DW is better than Brees at this stage regardless of health.

Re: How many want a healthy Brees back next year?
Hill is making $16 million in 2021. The decision has already been made in regards to Brees being a Saint next season.

In the context of your question it is still no as that is two seasons in a row that he has proven to have increased fragility so no, I don't want Drew back in 2021 so another QB can play part of the season. |

Key word is healthy. If he is, then I want him back.

Re: How many want a healthy Brees back next year?
As much as I love and respect Drew, we got to move on and get over the rough patch sooner than later

Re: How many want a healthy Brees back next year?

Re: How many want a healthy Brees back next year?
My heart says yes.....so does my brain. However, my eyes tell me that he is not the same man as years gone by. I've made my peace with Drew not coming back. But man! I sure hope he comes back healthy and strong. I retired from rugby at 59 so I believe that Drew could play a couple of years more.

How many want a healthy Brees back next year?
I’m all for the above . He can come back healed strong and get us another winning season, but come playoffs his arm is shot again, after the 17th game. Velocity - accuracy is bunk. Against the bucs first drive after the half he was ole Drew methodical drive down the field pin point throws one drop by Thomas wasn’t the best throw on that one , then trequon touchdown at the market. Awesome rite . Then it went to crap he didn’t have another halftime to rest it was over . It’s over
