I opened the link but wasn't sure how to read it. Are they all in the third round? It's more trade ammo for Payton.

A 3rd, a 4th and a 6th round picks.

This is what Ohio State folks had to say about the Saints selecting Pete Werner, in the second round...

Analyzing Pete Werner being selected by the New Orleans Saints in the 2021 NFL Draft: Ohio State ... - YouTube

I remember listening at this podcast right after the Saints selected Pete. Not a lot of enthusiasm from this bunch & they are OSU guys.

Only thing I agree with in early part of the assessment is that someone drafted in the second rd, you expect dynamic things. We shall see however I hadn’t heard much from Werner at camp & subsequent pre season games.

In three years these guys will either eat crow or the Saints will have drafted another linebacker who did not live up to their draft status.

We'll see. Just how many busts have the Saints had in the 2nd round? Pete Werner did beat competition that wasn't chump change at The Ohio St U. How many LBers not in the first round for any team have made an immediate productive impactful contribution (aka starting) for their respective teams.

Kwon is an exception as he was a 4th rounder for another team.

Yep yep. I thought former 1st rounders Queen, Kenneth Murray (Chargers) and Isaiah had "impact" as starters out of the gate. Darius Leonard (2nd rounder) & that LSU dude (Devin White) did as well so it can be done.

Stephone A & Thor (Anzalone) kinda ruined it for me. Wasn't Martez listed as a LB coming out of college too? High draft selections but for whatever reason, didn't pan out in New Orleans.

Saints simply don't have the best track record with drafting or developing linebackers over the last two decades.

I'm hopeful Pete Werner will be different .

I think a majority of that came from Joe Vitt. That dude was a garbage coach. Most people would of dropped him like a bad habit but he was a crony of Paytons so that’s that. I would of love to seen Nolan mold the new LB’s. He maybe a crap coordinator but he’s a damn good LB coach.

Certainly agree with Nolan's ability by his pedigree, but it's been Michael Hodges that's flipped the switch on Baun, Hansen, Ellis, and even Andrew Powell...

Would love to have a mulligan right now on that second round and have taken IOL Creed Humphrey or NT Alim McNeil...

Or used it to trade up and get Marshall Jr. early in the second instead of sitting and hoping he’d fall. Roll the dice on positions you need and trade up
