BENSON CAVES ON REFUNDS
POSTED 8:28 a.m. EDT; UPDATED 9:27 a.m. EDT, September 6, 2005
BENSON CAVES ON REFUNDS Arnold Fielkow likely has saved the New Orleans Saints. At least for now. According to a statement made by Fielkow on Monday and published by The New Orleans Times-Picayune, Saints owner Tom Benson has abandoned his plan to refuse refunds to season-ticket holders, which as we reported on Monday afternoon was intended to provide the catalyst for a permanent move. RE: BENSON CAVES ON REFUNDS
Lots of good info there.
Another point I want to make about refunds...If Benson or the NFL refuses to allow the games to be played in Louisiana, then Benson owes the state a refund from the payment the state made to him this summer in the $15 to $20 Mil range. That money was paid because, for one reason, the Saints bring a positive economic impact to the state. If a decision made by Benson or the NFL cancels that positive economic impact to the state, then Benson should be obligated to repay the money. |

RE: BENSON CAVES ON REFUNDS
Well the contract the Saints have is for the Dome not for 'a place in Louisiana'. If the State can not make the dome ready for games then its not Benson's fault he can't have his team play there, thus the state bares the burden and Benson owes nothing back. NFL or Benson isn't canceling anything, its the Dome not being able to host games its of no fault to the NFL, Sanits or Benson.
