Benson Statement
STATEMENT FROM SAINTS OWNER TOM BENSON
September 6, 2005, New Orleans Saints Sep 6, 2005 – 2:03 pm The entire New Orleans Saints organization would like to extend its prayers and best wishes to all of our fans throughout Louisiana and the Gulf South region. We are currently working with the NFL and expect to be in a position shortly to announce the sites for our remaining 2005 home schedule. I have expressed my desire to the NFL to play games in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to the extent circumstances allow. Saints ticket holders unable to attend home games, wherever played, should also be assured that they will be permitted to request refunds. Specifics of the refund policy will be publicized in the upcoming days. The New Orleans Saints look forward to the start of the NFL regular season this Sunday and to having the Club be a source of pride and joy in these difficult days. As we move forward together, the Saints look forward to serving as a leader in the rebuilding and revitalization of our great community. Towards this effort, the Saints have established the "New Orleans Saints Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund". Further information for those individuals/companies interested in contributing will be announced shortly. The Saints aren't going anywhere so we all need to chill out. The NFL will never let take a city like New Orleans out of the Superbowl rotation. Comprende? |

RE: Benson Statement
Mr. Benson saw himself going down in history as the worst villian of all times if he thought about doing something stupid at this point in time. As of right now the payment has been made to the Saints so they cannot go anywhere else until after thew 2006 season anyway and I can assure the NFL will never, never, never let it be the Saint's now. Benson will get his brand new state of the art stadium and the fans will keep the Saint's for at least the next 20 years.

RE: Benson Statement
I'm not going to give Benson a pat on the back, in my opinion this may have not happened if Arnold Fielkow hand't brought so much attention to what was going. I think it kind of forced Benson into this position. Please see my earlier thread on Benson Caving In. http://www.blackandgold.net/site/ind...wtopic&t=10610.

RE: Benson Statement
I think a lot of people don't give Benson credit. I mean the man has never said he is going to move them. Hell he bought them solely to keep them in Louisisana in the first place. Benson loves his team and he loves New Orleans, he'll do the right thing.

Benson.....don't throw him any flowers just yet. The car salesman in him probably saw the current situation as a means to an end at a really bad time. Someone with some tact probably roped him in and told him to soften his stance. If all the right people do the right things (big if), this tragedy could end up nailing the Saints down for the long haul. Benson gets a new stadium, the city gets the revenue streams that come from the new superdome...everybody is happy. But...there are many miles to walk before any of that happens. |
