Odds are favorable that the 2021 team will have less talent than we have seen in a while. Brees won’t have the benefit of a dominant defense to help keep us in games and we certainly won’t have as much depth as we have had in recent years. This is going to make it much harder on Brees to help us get another Lombardi. It will likely be a down year and I would rather see him retire this year, after a playoff season than retire after a season where we miss the playoffs.
I also don’t think his body can handle a full season and I don’t think some the players are behind him. It’s just time.
Or you could be as totally wrong about this as your being convinced Michael Thomas would be gone this off-season.

Never said I was convinced. Said it was possible. Also said I wouldn’t like it.

This is like watching the end of a western movie. I can barely make Drew out riding into the sunset for a new chapter in his life. I can't wait for the sequel....or trilogy to come out!

Kind of off topic but doesn't Brees require surgery on his rotator cuff? That is a significant procedure from what I've read.

I may have missed the update on that one.

Very significant but I don’t know if he needs surgery. I don’t think we know which shoulder it was. If I had to guess I would say it wasn’t his thing shoulder because we saw him throwing in work outs. If it were his throwing shoulder he wouldn’t be able to throw even if he wanted to. It’s not a matter of pain it’s range of motion.
I tore my labrum and rotator cuff once because a drunk fat girl fell on me. It sucked. Had to walk back to the French Quarter from the hospital at 2am with a sling. Can’t believe I didn’t get shot.

There was the shot of him that someone posted here from a post game interview that showed the black kinesiology tape on his right shoulder.

Apparently not only are there are different degrees, or grades, of rotator cuff injury, but also different sizes that determine the severity. I'm sure all would have an effect to differing degrees on the ability to throw a football. Not all require surgery.

Cuff Tear Size

Small0-1 cm
Medium1-3 cm
Large3-5 cm
Massive> 5 cm (involves multiple tendons. In the European classification a massive tear is defined as involving 2 or more tendons)

Ellman Classification of Partial-Thickness Rotator Cuff Tears

Grade Description
I<3mm (<25% thickness)
II3-6mm (25-50%)
III> 6 mm (>50%)

He's worn that tape and other often in his career - part of the deal with a butterflied, reconstructed shoulder and age...

That was the first time the other member first saw it and it's the earliest picture I have ever seen with it. I searched in game images and couldn't find that tape in any of them. Early November 2020 was the earliest photo where the tape job appears. That was also the week he first appeared on the injury report with a shoulder designation. He wears his sleeves so short it should have been visible in every photo if he had actually been wearing it previous to that game pictured. And, that is the correct KT placement for rotator cuff support, as well. Just google images for KT rotator cuff method.

Drew Brees on injury report, but he downplays right shoulder issue
Posted by Charean Williams on November 4, 2020, 5:35 PM EST

Drew Brees popped up on the injury report with a shoulder injury that limited him. The Saints quarterback, though, said he’s always limited on Wednesdays as routine maintenance.

“It’s pretty standard,” Brees said Wednesday.

Brees played with tape on his shoulder Sunday but continued to downplay his injury.

Re: The Real Drew Brees please let us know

Friend of mine has a theory that Brees will retire tomorrow (Sunday the 14th) as it will be the 15 year anniversary of him signing with the Saints.

It's a good a theory as any I guess.
