The caveat is that the player must personally purchase every jersey on the market with the previous number or wait until 2022 to change. He may be able to handle it since he probably doesn't have many factory jersey's or other number related stock out there to drop the dime on.

On the other hand, Kamara may have to pony up big time to buy every NFL sanctioned item with his number on it.

Yep, the Vikings RB Dalvin Cook wanted to change his number to 4 but then he found out it would cost him $1.5 million to do so. A guy like Gardner-Johnson could probably do it with minimal financial impact.
