Niners trade with Miami move up to #3
 

Dolphins trading No. 3 overall pick to the San Francisco 49ers for the No. 12 pick, a 2021 third-round pick (SF’s comp pick for Robert Saleh hiring) and first-round picks in 2022 and 2023, per sources.

Not sure it belongs here, but very interesting.

There's a really good chance picks 1-4 are QB. Will be the first time it's ever happened. Picks 1-3 have been QB twice......in '71 and '99.

I'm guessing 1-3 will be:

Lawrence
Wilson
Lance

They have to be targeting Pitts or Waddle/Smith.

This is a really weird trade because its #3 not #1 or #2, and they made it way in advance where teams can possibly figure out who they are targeting and jump them or force them to trade more to move up further. They have to love all of the top 3-4 players on their board almost equally. With so much time, there is also a risk that if they love their top 3, one of those 3 could have an issue between now and the draft with misconduct or injury etc and slide, and then they better love their top 4. It just seems so much safer to make this trade closer to the draft, on the clock, or to find a way to get to #1 or #2.

I'm no GM, but it appears they have 2 guys ranked equally after Lawrence and are happy with either. I'm going on record to assume that they love Lance. He would fit the Shanahan QB profile just like RG3 back in the day.

I get it, but that’s an insane gamble giving up that draft capital for such an inexperienced QB in Trey Lance.
