Seems like a good gamble to me. I have a feeling I'll be getting me a Davenport jersey to replace the Brees jersey I have worn since the 2006 preseason after this coming season.

Thought he would be a game changer once he finally got healthy last year. He pretty much disappeared. Guess he wasn’t all that healthy.
We also invested so much into him because we were in “win now mode”. Apparently they saw something in him that made them think he could make an immediate impact. Here we are three years later still waiting for that impact. He didn’t help us during the “win now” window and that alone tells me we gave up too much.

Can someone compare when we drafted cam against dav stats. Cam seems like is never injured though?

A well known saying in the NFL is that the injury rate is 100%. At some point(s) or another every player will suffer injuries. Some come early in their careers and never appear again. Others remain mostly healthy until late in their careers. Davenport has been forced to deal with injuries each of his three season thus far. That is simply misfortune.

As for Cam versus Davenport, Jordan only had one season with over ten sacks in his first six years. That was in his third year in 2013 with 12.5 sacks. He really broke out in year seven having 13, 12, and 15.5 over the next three seasons.

Another thing to consider is that Davenport has been used more on running downs in the Saints DE rotation. It appears that Dennis Allen did not trust Hendrickson in that role as he played almost exclusively passing downs. I'm expecting Davenport to get more use in that pass rush role moving forward if Turner can show his worth versus the run.

If it was a single chronic injury I would agree. The broken thumb could happen to anyone. The elbow bone bruise was also unrelated. I'll give you the pedal toe sprains. That one happened twice two years apart. One would wonder about his footwear in those cases. He also had season ending Lisfranc surgery in 2019.

I can recall how many times people were saying “davenbust” last year after he made a great play.

There were bright moments and Hendriksen was taking a lot of the snaps too.

Marcus helps collapse the pocket and seal the edge even if he isn’t the one getting the glory stat

This year will be a bust out one and the coaches see his impact

I can't argue with you about how good our D-line will be. There are a couple of things to remember though. That is just the starting D-line and not the valuable depth that made us so good the last few years. We have role players taking on more responsibilities. I was devastated that we traded Brown because he was the best run stopper we've had in some time. It's going to be tough to replace Hendrickson's production. They did draft a DE in the first round so they have that going for them.

Did I mention how many UDFA's we have playing major snaps? That's not usuallya recipe for success. Also, my faith in Davenport is waning that he will ever be the impact player that I envisioned from watching him play.

By the way, I'm tired of saying that Davenport will make us forget his cost of two first round picks and a fifth. :doh:

I think you are overestimating Hendrickson's impact. He was usually in on passing downs playing opposite Cam. Whomever was in there on those downs should have had good sack production. We had 45 total sacks as a team. If we have 45 again this season (which we should) it means that Hendrickson's production was replaced. The sack should be looked at as a team stat instead of an individual stat. I'd much rather have a defense get 50 sacks with no player having more than eight, let's say, than a team with two players getting 15 sacks a piece, but only getting 40 total as a team.

Don’t forget that football is a game of inches and when you play with measuring tape on peoples bodies not a football with the clock running nobody can beat davenport, turner, and that random unproductive backup de we just got from kc. If opposing quarterbacks take the time to review their measurables they will be intimidated. They will probably have the time to do that in the pocket.

There's depth on the line now, you just haven't seen some of them in action.
Tuttle and Roach are good. Dalton was killing it in camp prior to his season ending injury. Beyond that, you have to be excited about the potential between Huggins, Neal and Bronson. And that's just the D tackles.

I forgot about Dalton. He was impressive before going down. And I can't really argue about our depth even though it's mostly unproven. Huggins, Neal, and Bronson just might give us a good rotation at DT. Well said saintsfan!

I'm a huge believer in Davenport the player but he must stay healthy in 2021.
