Re: Si.com/Bob Rose | Saints Taking a Gamble on Marcus Davenport
Seems like a good gamble to me. I have a feeling I'll be getting me a Davenport jersey to replace the Brees jersey I have worn since the 2006 preseason after this coming season.

Re: Si.com/Bob Rose | Saints Taking a Gamble on Marcus Davenport
Thought he would be a game changer once he finally got healthy last year. He pretty much disappeared. Guess he wasn’t all that healthy.
We also invested so much into him because we were in “win now mode”. Apparently they saw something in him that made them think he could make an immediate impact. Here we are three years later still waiting for that impact. He didn’t help us during the “win now” window and that alone tells me we gave up too much. |

As for Cam versus Davenport, Jordan only had one season with over ten sacks in his first six years. That was in his third year in 2013 with 12.5 sacks. He really broke out in year seven having 13, 12, and 15.5 over the next three seasons. Another thing to consider is that Davenport has been used more on running downs in the Saints DE rotation. It appears that Dennis Allen did not trust Hendrickson in that role as he played almost exclusively passing downs. I'm expecting Davenport to get more use in that pass rush role moving forward if Turner can show his worth versus the run. |
