Sean Payton on Michael Thomas’ ankle: “So far, so good”

Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas was only able to play seven regular-season games in 2020. And while he came off injured reserve for the postseason, he didn’t make a catch in New Orleans’ loss to Tampa Bay in the Divisional Round.

On Thursday, Saints head coach Sean Payton said Thomas’ ankle that limited him last year is doing fine now.

“He’s here and participating. He looks good,” Payton said in his press conference. “We still monitor it, pay attention to it, scan it, and all those things. He’s getting treatment and doing the things necessary. So, so far, so good.”

Thomas set an NFL single-season record with 149 receptions in 2019 while also leading the league with 1,725 yards. Through five seasons, Thomas has 510 catches for 5,950 yards with 32 TDs.

WTF did he really do to his ankle to still be requiring scans and treatment? This is nuts! I sprained my ankle badly my senior year and needed a cast for a few months. Doc told me it was the worst sprain he had ever seen without actually breaking something. Can’t imagine he’s still dealing with it now.

As someone who has played more fantasy football than I should, high ankle sprains are serious issues. He probably shouldn't have been brought back like he was. That injury takes a great deal of time to recover from.

If your High School has invested $96MM in you, they might still want scans of that ankle .

I can't imagine him playing through the injury helped him in any way, so I'd wager thats why he is still having issues with it.

So, who will be our number one receiver if his ankle keeps him side lined like last year?
