New Orleans Saints 90-man roster, ordered by jersey number

The 2021 NFL draft is well behind us. So is the flurry of big moves in free agency. So where does that leave the New Orleans Saints? And who has chosen which jersey numbers? To find out, I’ve put together a quick list of everyone under contract, ordered by jersey numbers.

Now, this is far from the final product — the Saints are still under the 90-man offseason roster limit, so more additions are on the way. And recent pickups like offensive tackle Kyle Murphy, linebacker Quentin Poling, and defensive tackle Lorenzo Neal Jr. (yes, the son of that Lorenzo Neal) haven’t yet chosen their jersey numbers. Some veterans like C.J. Gardner-Johnson are pursuing new numbers after the NFL relaxed jersey restrictions, too.

So I’ll update this as we get deeper into the summer and more information becomes available. In the meantime, take a look at the current state of the Saints

I kind of dig the fact that most of the WR's numbers are 10-13 ...

Can’t wait to see who takes advantage of the new jersey number rules. I’m fairly certain Gardner-Johnson is changing to #1.

The caveat is that you have to buy back every jersey on the market to change numbers. For real. It shouldn't be an issue for Gardner-Johnson. But others, That may be a sticking point.

There has to be a consequence for fans having already bought jerseys with older numbers?

Realistically, I would imagine Kamara and Michael Thomas are the only ones that it would cost a ton of money to do so. No-one else on the roster is seeing big jersey sales.

Fomer Notre Dame QB Ian Book wearing number 16. I can only assume that's a nod to the great Joe Montana... A former Notre Dame QB that wore number 16 in the NFL.

That makes me both happy and sad!

Yeah. I remember when Chad Johnson changed his name to Ochocinco. He had to buy back every jersey for that change, as well. That definitely wasn't cheap. It was the following season before he was able to wear the new jersey.

On a fourth round pick's salary, it may very well be an issue; or a very expensive bill because of vanity...

Can see cases like Reggie Bush, where there was a huge marketing effort as he come into the league; and in his case, a back, he should've been allowed to wear No. 5...

But why would Ceedy-Deuce no longer want to wear 22? Deuce-Deuce?

Other than allowing feature RBs to wear single digits, like the rule as it was...
