Falcons stuck with Matt Ryan over Brady

Everyone thinks Tom Brady was talking about the 49ers but I think he was talking about the Falcons and Matt Ryan. We know that two other teams he talked with were NFC South contenders with elite #1 wide receivers. I am sure Brady was surprised when the Falcons stuck with Matt Ryan.

Atlanta stuck with Ryan because they were stuck with Ryan. It was impossible for them to absorb even a small portion of his dead cap if released or traded last year even with a post June 1st move. His dead cap hit would have been $75,850,000 for 2020. 2021 wasn't much better with a $65,437,500 cap hit if traded or released. Next year trading or cutting Ryan will ONLY cost the Falcons $40,525,000.

Atlanta was never a player in the Brady sweepstakes and Brady knew that. His agent would have made him fully aware of the Ryan contract.

The idea that Brady would expect the Falcons to eat $75.8MM in dead cap should have been considered before posting.

If Brees had retired a year earlier, does TB come to the Saints?

If I remember correctly, Brees not retiring was the reason Brady went to Tampa Bay and not the Saints.

As for Brady maybe going to Atlanta, Matt Ryan salary cap issues aside, Brady would have been a bad fit in Atlanta due to their horrible offensive front line.
