I will say though, Hill should be on this list. He will either be an efficient QB or the best Jackknife in the league. There are many players in the “top 100” I would take after Hill. He’s like Tebow but good.

Excuse me? Hill as a top 100 player in the league? Day drinking?

:D

He’d make any team in the league's roster I believe...just not as QB necessarily.

Undoubtedly. But top 100 out of 1696 players on 53 man rosters? No way in hell. Top 500, yeah, I'd buy that. But top 100. That is ridiculous.

Maybe, but he could end up being one of the best 3 players on the team. Third best on a team x 32 teams puts him in top 96.

I really do like Hill as an all round football player, but third best on the roster? He can do several different things well, but that doesn't make him elite at anything. Both Kamara and Thomas are elite. Armstead and Ramczyk are both elite at their positions. I would add Lattimore, Demario Davis, and Cam Jordan as being individually better than Taysom Hill at what they do.

It’s a reach I’ll admit. I still say there are guys on the top 100 that I would not take over Hill.

Rankings don' mean a thing. It's not a contest until you get on the field.

Hendrickson top 100? I'm sorry, but that is a swing and miss. He has no support on the defensive line. He is the primary pass rusher. He's going to see double team constantly, something he never saw last season.

I'd be shocked if he manages double digit sacks.

Nope. Not hate at all. I hope he does well, but I simply do not see him having anywhere even approaching the success he had at New Orleans. He almost never saw double teams here and he'll be dealing with them all the time. Sam Hubbard, the opposite side DE, is even less of a threat freeing the offense to key on Hendrickson.

I just do not see any scenario where he will see the type of success a top 100 listing would entail. I repeat, I would be shocked to see him get double digit sacks.

I have a theory about Guidos take on T. rex, but I’d have to pull out
my ten foot pole to touch my psychology books to express it.

Pull out that pole. Anyone that knows football knows that individual success on a defensive line is based upon the effectiveness of the entire line as a unit.

New Orleans had 45 sacks as a team last year. That was 8th in the NFL. Hendrickson's Bengals were dead last in the league with only 17 sacks. They really didn't add a great deal other than Hendrickson and DT's Larry Ogunjobi and DJ Reader.

I agree that having multiple good D linemen is better than having one great and bunch of Average if that’s what you mean.

That's basically what I'm saying. Even more so when you only have one fairly good one and the rest average.

As I pointed out, the Saints had 45 team sacks last season. Will they miss Hendrickson? If they repeat with 45 or more team sacks again this season, then no. I expect them to do just that.

On the other hand, Cincy's team leader in sacks last season, Carl Lawson, had 5.5 sacks and he is no longer with the team. No one else had more than two sacks. Hendrickson is not in a situation to succeed in amassing anywhere near as many sacks this coming season.

If you look at Individual positions, then units, you are oversimplifying things. Having great DBs can help an average line get more sacks by forcing a QB to hold the ball longer. Likewise, having great LBs can add to pressure on the QB as well. Your comparison of Cincy and the Saints in sacks from last year only tells me that the Saints had better all defensive performance than Cincy did. That was obviously aided by the Saints having a better offense. Time will obviously be the judge, and I’m not predicting Rex gets the same sack total, but your analysis is an oversimplification.

I kept it simple for brevity. Of course there are other factors involved. But the premise still remains that Hendrickson is not in the situation to come close to repeating his numbers from last season and thus my questioning his being voted into the 2021 top 100 list. There was no psychological reason for my coming to that conclusion as you alluded. Believe me, I'm not the only one that see it that way. I've heard no less than three separate detailed preseason analysis of defensive line groupings team by team and basically the same thing was pointed out by all concerning Hendrickson's impact this coming season.

Fair enough, but them signing Trey could help their D line tremendously even without him getting double digit sacks. Paying a low pick guy who worked his way up through hustle and effort to land a big contract is not a bad idea IMO.

Dusting off my psyche books since you asked, I propose your repeated belittling of Trey is a form of displaced hostility towards Davenport. Fact is, when weighed against the low draft pick spent on Trey vs the much higher picks spent on Marcus, Hendrickson has been a much better player and has much higher production so far in their careers. You don’t like when people point out “mistakes” the team has made in the past. So, this one sticks with you and you transfer the aggression to the guy no longer on the team.

I haven’t practiced psyche in a few years, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express before ! 🤪

Nope. Not at all. However, I wouldn't be surprised if/when Davenport puts up the same or better numbers than Hendrickson last year. He's not going to be relegated to playing the run as much and should be in there opposite Jordan in far more passing situations. Since, as you also pointed out, sacks are really a team stat those sock numbers have to go somewhere and Davenport is the logical recipient.

Ryan Ramczyk is the best offensive tackle in the league and doesn't make the list?

This list can't considered to have any credibility...

It's a popularity vote by players in the league. It has no credibility beyond Miss Congeniality.
