Winston would really have to play poorly to be benched. It's not even close as to who won the QB competition and I don't believe that Payton will let Winston make enough dumb decisions to lose his job to Taysom.

You willing to put money on that? Short of injury to Winston or having our playoff position set in week 18, I see the chances as zero that Hill gets a start this season. I'd love a little extra cash.

And you must have conveniently ignored the positive posts on Winston's being named starter. Personally I expect him to tear it up.

Interesting thought. Maybe it is because people are cautiously optimistic/secretly afraid of the future without Brees (post Breesian to quote Guido). I think most people (like myself) here wanted One of the quarterbacks to step forward and clearly shine. Neither one really did. those that thought Winston would clearly be that guy (like myself) have not been vindicated. It was tough to tell with each QB working against two teams of different defensive strengths. It’s gonna be even more strange without the 3rd preseason game.

Opening opponent in Green Bay is obviously a tough one. Let’s hope the fans and the team get it done.

Winston looked great! Both QB's have looked very good. And this with splitting first team reps. Winston will now get all first team reps and I expect him to be one of the better QB's in the league. It's a short list of QB's I'd rather have in the league today than Winston at this point in his career.

20-0 Baby!

He'll be starting much sooner than that if Winston's interception rate isn't low. I don't think coach will tolerate 10 picks in 4 games kinda stats. I also think Winston is well aware of this.

Don’t quote Guido. The last thing we need is a bunch of Guidoisms flying around the board.

Personally I find the fact Winston wasn’t the clear leader from the first day of camp a little frightening.
He’s head and shoulders above Taysom but if you believe the reports coming out of camp he was pretty hot and cold, like he’s always been. I hope he can find consistency but those TDS he made against Jacksonville were pretty typical of him but usually they’re followed up with a couple interceptions a few series later.

Most every QB across the league was hot and cold during early training camp. It's pretty much par for the course. And don't forget, Winston is in a completely different sort of offense and he also has a completely different frame of mind. I do not expect turnovers to be an issue at all.

As for being a clear leader, that depends upon point of view. I feel Payton knew exactly who was the clear leader even though Hill was given every possible chance. Besides, Hill is quite capable of starting in the NFL. They both looked good overall. I don't see him being anywhere near as effective as Winston, however.
