God willing, if we are able to play game 1 as scheduled somewhere (hopefully the dome), all of the stress and disruption will be focused solely on the Packers.

Packers at Saints in Week 1 could be moved: Here's the latest after Saints are forced to evacuate New Orleans
The NFL is closely monitoring the situation in New Orleans due to Hurricane Ida By John Breech 1 hr ago 2 min read With Hurricane Ida bearing down on New Orleans over the weekend, the Saints decided to evacuate the city Saturday and head to Dallas, where they'll be practicing until at least Wednesday. Beyond that, though, things are still up in the air. When Ida came ashore Sunday, it knocked out power in the entire city of New Orleans and right now, it's unclear if the Saints will be able to host their regular-season opener against the Packers, which is just 13 days away. Although the opener will definitely get played, Saints coach Sean Payton admitted Monday that he has no idea if the game will actually take place in New Orleans. "We haven't heard anything relative to the opener," Payton said, via The Times-Picayune/NOLA.com. "Obviously, we'll have a Plan B. A lot of things from a priority standpoint are more important for our city. We fully anticipate starting the season with Green Bay and the question is where will it be at." "I honestly think in the next three days that we'll know what our next step is," Payton said, via The Times-Picayune/NOLA.com. "We're pretty sure it's not going to be returning to Metairie anytime soon to start practices. I think that's unrealistic." Metairie, Louisiana, is where the Saints practice facility is, and if Payton doesn't envision his team returning there in the near future, that means they're going to need to find somewhere else to practice. However, that's not what Payton is thinking about right now. "It's prayers and safety," Payton said. "It's all the things that we want for our neighbors, our residents." As for the game against the Packers, if it does get moved, it wouldn't be the first time the Saints have had to relocate. After Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005, the Saints were forced to leave New Orleans for the entire year and played their home games in Baton Rouge and San Antonio. The Drew Brees era is over in New Orleans and the Saints have turned to Jameis Winston. Better gas up and take the 3 hour ride or 1 hour flight to DFW. |

Anyone notice any parallels between this season and our 2006 season?

That's what I thought. The month away was worst case scenario planning. We could be back into the facilities sooner.

Re: Saints and Ida News
Let's play a home game in Atlanta, just for the shock value :p

At first I thought Atlanta was a good idea since we've owned the place for so long and a dome is appealing, but we'd probably get the away team treatment by the Falcon fans so that's out. So where could we play in a dome and likely get treated better than the Packers? Detroit or Minnesota. Detroit hosts SF, but Minnesota is at Cincinnati. Surely there's no love for the Packers there and they'd still have to travel as if its an away game...just with a shorter flight. I also read that the location has to be an NFL stadium due to replay rules and requirements so it ticks that box. The only downer is my perception that we've had some pretty bad games there over the years and I'm left with a few mental scars (thanks, Marcus). Cheers and best of luck to all of you living in the gulf south. I hope all of you and your families escaped Ida with minimal loss. |
Re: Saints and Ida News
I hope the game gets played somewhere in Louisiana. There are many facilities West of the storm track that can host the game. Two that come to mind are Cajun Field in Lafayette or Independence in Shreveport, both would be fine for a game or two.

Re: Saints and Ida News
Why not Tiger Stadium?

Re: Saints and Ida News
Just wanted to confirm that the games cannot be played in Louisiana unless it is the Superdome.

Re: Saints and Ida News
The rumor is we’ll be playing week one in Jacksonville.

Re: Saints and Ida News
The NFL is a billion dollar industry. Monsters.
Better believe they (NFL) want the Saints venue in a NFL stadium ... options include Tampa, Jacksonville or even Chicago. All areas with a strong Green Bay fan base. If not for a scheduled concert in Dallas, this game would be played here at Jerry's world. |
