So Tyler Palko might have been good enough to be another Dan Marino.

Palko ended his college career tied for SECOND IN SCHOOL HISTORY with Alex Van Pelt in career touchdown passes (66) and was second in Pitt history in career passing yardage, trailing Dan Marino by 254 yards.

Palko's NFL career stats: 8 games 4 starts 2 TD 7 INT 60.7 Career Passer Rating.

I have always been very high on Rivers. He could have gone to any handful of organizations and gotten a ring but unfortunately wound up with the Chargers. There was a reason Eli refused to go. I think he just got tired of losing and am willing to bet he would have another couple years in Payton’s offense. Good mentor for Book or any other young guy.
Learning the offense would be the main problem and with our record I think Payton will roll with what we have until it’s obvious it’s not working. And stop going to that other forum.
90% of those posters are glorified cheerleaders who don’t know squat about football.

Strangely enough when the word came that the Saints signed Jameis it was like news from Fungo Land.
But time goes by like it always does and I was totally on board with #2 behind center.
When Jameis got injured going out on the cart I was totally devastated. When they say Not For Long they aren't kidding.

Joe Montana isn't even in the top ten in Notre Dame career, season, or single game records for touchdowns or yardage. Even after Ian Book, Brady Quinn still holds basically every passing record.

Joe Montana's Notre Dame Stats

Just pointing this out. ;)

Montana had 4121 yards passing in his ND career. Quinn almost had that much in one season (3919) and had 11,762 yards in his career.

Different era... different type of football. Still, there is a reason SP spent a draft pick on the guy.

I agree. He has potential. But he is not ready to be placed into a post-season run in any capacity. Former Notre Dame HC Charlie Weis said this very thing on Monday when a caller brought up Ian Book. He said he really likes Book, but he has a long way to go to be relied upon as an NFL QB.

One plus for Rivers is that he could almost commute from his home in Fairhope, Alabama.

Rivers ain't coming here.

We're going to really see just how good our QB room is. In a way, it's God's way to settle the QB battle for next year. Lots of questions will be answered, including Jameis' future here as a Saint. The only QB under contract for next year is Ian Book. He'll continue to be developed. SP brought Tony Romo in and made him what he became. There's no way right now the Saints extend a mega multiyear deal for Winston. All options are on the table, more so than this past offseason. My guess is that there will be a one year incentive laden deal yet again for Winston. Or we'll make a trade for the two QB names that were bandied about during preseason... if our QB room doesn't pan out as well as we'd like. :bng:

I haven't seen him around town yet but I'll keep my eyes open.
