As a receiver he has to catch 3rd down passes and in the backfield he has to block, all to extend the drives of the QBs he may feel stole his rightful job. So I think he may lack the talent to be an above average starting QB in the NFL, but his wanting to be one after waiting his turn until Brees retired may poison his value as a gadget player. Its not bad character, many of us might not want to work for a colleague we feel stole our promotion and might spend more time polishing our resume than working on the project. I just dont know if I trust Hill to totally want to catch the pass that cements a different QB as Brees successor. In his interview after this new contract, he only seemed excited about playing QB and seemed to indicate any other role was settling. So what is the value of someone who wont be happy but you still have to count on them?

I think you are totally misjudging Hill. Of course he wants to play QB, but he also wants to play football. The guy has his head screwed on right. He is a man of God. A family man. He isn't the disgruntled type.

A man of god is still a man. It is human to resent feeling passed over. Every religion has had leaders who were passed over or denied as lofty a position as they desired, became dissatisfied, and broke off. When I hear Hill talking about wanting to play QB it doesnt sound to me like he is totally ok with not being the qb. Thats not bad, its just human.

Apparently the foot injury is plantar fascitis. Good thing that neither that nor blackout concussions can be lingering or threaten a career, since we just had to guarantee him money while he deals with both.

Can't wait to see the injury report on Tues/Wednesday for Taysom.

If he's still unable to go, that means more "suckage" with Trevor S :(.

Here's the ONLY way Taysom can earn the maximum from his new contract the way it is structured. (ie. $23.75 million per year average)

Here’s how Taysom Hill can get the most out of his new contract

In all, the only way for Taysom to see the most possible of his contract is if the following happened in each 2022, 2023, and 2024.

Taysom appears for 70% of offensive snaps.

He (needs to) Throw 146/224 for 4,000+ passing yards and 30+ passing touchdowns while rushing for at least 600 yards and 10 scores

The Saints will need to be at least 13-4 and a top-10 scoring offense and top-10 offense in total yardage in the regular season.

Hill plays 50% of postseason snaps at QB with at least 10 passing attempts and 10 passing yards.

He’ll have to be a Super Bowl winning Pro Bowler.

Then, he’ll have to play the 2025 season as the Saints starting QB long enough to earn the escalators earned in 2024. At 35 years old.

If all of that happens including the three Lombardi trophies then I would say his $23.75 million per year average would be a "steal". Otherwise he receives much less.

True Dat. But the desire to be good at what you do is priceless. No matter what position you are playing. I played 12 out of 15 positions in rugby. I have bad depth perception so I couldn't catch too many kicks deep or to the edge of the field. I played all of them with the same amount of enthusiasm. Although, I was born to be a hooker!

Ok Guido, let me ask you this. Serious (non trapping) question, this contract pays more money to Hill (next year) than it does to Kamara (maybe CGM as well). How do you feel about that?

I'm sorry, Boston, but that is incorrect. Both Kamara ($14.5M) and Thomas ($24.7M) are larger 2022 cap hits than Hill ($12.325M). That said, I don't care what the players get paid individually. I never have and I never will. If Hill does eventually get paid more in a given year than any other player it doesn't matter at all to me. I don't really see why it should matter to anyone.
