Well that's set us back for a few more years..

They should be trying to recoup and get back into +salary cap, not giving ridiculous contracts to players that don't play enough to warrant it.

I would of rather them sign Marcus Williams before anyone

I absolutely do not like this, too much for an aging gadget player with almost no chance at becoming a franchise QB.

I get that "only" 22.5 is guaranteed but this is an experiment we need to stop experimenting with. That money needs to be allocated to a position of need. I'm tired putting a bandaid on **** and hoping it works out. Taysom is a gadget player who we are bidding with ourselves to keep.

Wait until the details are shared. This could actually free up cap space moving forward. If by some chance Hill does become QB and performs well it will be a bargain deal as lower tier starting QB's will be getting $30 million average per year very soon.

As I said, this move will mostly open up cap space.

Dude lost the competition to Jameis but let’s keep giving him new contracts.

Re: Taysom Hill, Saints Reportedly Agree to 'Unique' Hybrid Contract Worth Up to $95M

Why not start him for the rest of the year, see how he performs, THEN gave him a new deal?

We realize it isn't a 140m contract, some of us are tired of this experiment.

If we actually have a number 2-3 tight end, QB, receiver, and running back then he's possibly worth the money. I guess this means we won't be paying can't call Mike next year.

Re: Taysom Hill, Saints Reportedly Agree to 'Unique' Hybrid Contract Worth Up to $95M

Even if he isn’t playing QB, he isn’t actually that good at WR/TE/HB/whatever. It’s a cool thing to be a Swiss Army Knife but he hasn’t excelled at anything. I don’t know man, I don’t get it.

I have been around long enough to understand....

ONE DOES NOT QUESTION THE CAP GURU LOOMY.

I am sure this will make more sense as details are shared. Hill is a great player for the team regardless of position. He is our best WR and TE right now... Hell he might be our best QB too.

Yes we will. In fact giving Thomas an extension will open up even more cap.

His cap wizardry, in my opinion, is the leading reason why we are playing with High School level talent at WR every gameday.

The timing of this weird AF, coming off the bad loss and Taysom's cloudy health status (concussion, foot). Don't even know who's starting on Thursday yet. Super weird.

The Peat contract is hurting as well. Not blaming it all on Loomis though. I don’t think he is the talent evaluator.

Agreed, that Peat contract is just silly considering, we are what, 6 years in and he's still the weakness of the line. Ruiz at least has some excuse, Peats ran out a long time ago.

I doubt this was a spur of the moment deal. It has probably been in the works for a while. Maybe they were waiting to see how Siemian panned out. I suppose they finally decided to pull the trigger after seeing this weekend's suckage. :D

He’s not, he’s just the bean counter. Sean handles all the personnel decisions. Why would Sean want him and resign him for that kind of money is beyond me.

Making moves to free up space to trade for Russell Wilson this off season.

Re: Taysom Hill, Saints Reportedly Agree to 'Unique' Hybrid Contract Worth Up to $95M

The contract is the least of the team’s worries ATM. But Maybe they hope to get an injury discount and resign Winston. That would keep the Hill, Winston, Book band together. I’m not sure that’s a terrible thing. Think back to the Green Bay game and how good everything looked on offense. Now Add Michael Thomas to that.

I’m not saying it’s the best thing, but having that group of QBs for another year at a relative inexpensive price for the position isn’t a terrible thing. Just a thought.

I like that idea. Also add another competent receiver to mix and that’s damn good offense

Re: Taysom Hill, Saints Reportedly Agree to 'Unique' Hybrid Contract Worth Up to $95M

Just looks like 10 million a year. He does a lot of things. He plays several positions. idk. I think he's worth that. He plays on ST, QB, TE and Lord know what else.

He'll make 10 a year. instead of paying several players 3 to 5 million a year to do some of those.

Maybe I'm crazy. But it kind of seems like a good deal.

If he becomes a starting QB and keeps it, then he gets compensated for it and it goes up. Otherwise its 10 million a year.

What he needs to do is learn how to kick FGs and XPs. Then he’d be awesome !!!

Re: Taysom Hill, Saints Reportedly Agree to 'Unique' Hybrid Contract Worth Up to $95M

If we didn't extend him we would still have $9 million of his on the books and he'd be a free agent. By extending him we have him for two more years and are not out anymore versus the cap in 2022.

It's time to put and end to such speculation. A trade for Wilson or Rodgers isn't going to happen for the Saints.

A thought experiment for context. Consider the Herschel Walker trade:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herschel_Walker_trade

That is about the level of talent that would need to be traded for one of these QBs. Please define what personnel the Saints have in players and picks that can match that. Think along the lines of trading all of: Kamara, Davenport, Lattimore, Demario Davis, and Ramcyck, along with multiple first and second round picks.

It's not going to happen. We should stop talking/speculating about it. It will decimate the team.

Re: Taysom Hill, Saints Reportedly Agree to 'Unique' Hybrid Contract Worth Up to $95M

I dont like this deal if it guarantees any more money to Hill. I feel like he is Terrelle Pryor, Coby Fleener, and Jahvid Best all in one player. All had their talents, but all burned teams with dead cap. Hill is a QB who is not great at passing and a runner who is not great at surviving tackles. He can do a lot of things, but I am not convinced he will be doing any of them for much longer. Maybe he would be better on defense where he would be able to set the terms of contact and not be a defenseless target catching passes in the middle of the field or getting blindsided in the pocket.

Hill new contract

According to ESPN, Hill is signing a 4 year 96 million dollar contract with nearly 23 million guaranteed. That’s quarterback money. Looks like he’s at the very least going to be given every chance to start next year. No one plays 96 million for a part time Swiss Army knife.

It seems crazy, but It’s a little misleading Voodoo. The contract could be for as “little” as around 11 mill a year. I’m not saying I’m in favor of it, but he only gets 96 if he indeed becomes the QB.
