The Book Chapter Begins
1 Attachment(s)
Hill and Semian are in Covid protocols so Book will start. I guess we finally get to see what the raw mid round pick can do with worse receivers than Brady had last week. You never know?

Re: The Book Chapter Begins
More importantly we need one if not BOTH tackles back on Monday night.
I’m curious to see what Ian can do but I don’t think its ideal for him running for his life behind back ups. Miami’s defense is solid. |
Re: The Book Chapter Begins
Living in the heart of Dolphins country I am preparing myself to receive the worst ribbing. I was okay before with Taysom, yes I wanted to see Book but not like this. So not the best news, but bring it on.

Re: The Book Chapter Begins
If you watched the Notre Dame games, he often didn't have a lot to work with at WR and had to lean on his RB's and TE's a lot and scramble to keep plays alive. This is what I have been saying, the adversity we have now is similar to some of the adversity he faced in college. He will just have to adjust to the speed of the pro game, and I think he'll do well because he didn't show that panic tendency I saw in Fields and Zack Wilson, even in college.

And on the seventh day, God created an opportunity for Ian Book!

We're throwing the Book at them.

Re: The Book Chapter Begins
He doesn't need to be a world beater, just play smart, safe football.
Coaches need to do overtime in the film room to show where the Blitz will be coming from and who his immediate outlet receiver is, because the dolphins will be coming after him. |
Re: The Book Chapter Begins
Could be worse, we could be starting TUA. Dude is straight trash

Tua actually has shown promise, but has been hot and cold. I think Book will do a nice job managing the game and making the high percentage plays that are there. Just do the west coast stuff and run quite a bit and help him transition. He could be the perfect QB to complement our blockbuster defense. |
Re: The Book Chapter Begins
This is gonna be fun to watch. I hope the kid does well.

Re: The Book Chapter Begins
We're asking a lot of the rookie. I hope he understands the "playBook". I wish him all the best.

Re: The Book Chapter Begins
I’m sick of this Covid ****. I’m supposed to go on a cruise Saturday and Saturday if for whatever reason I don’t make it it’s gonna be the FIFTH time I have to reschedule. I guarantee I’m gonna test positive even though I just got my booster, it’s just my luck.
At least it’s getting predictable, I’m just going to start scheduling things during the months that correlate with low numbers. Probably should buy up a **** ton of stock in the middle of a wave and sell when the curve is low. I’m gonna find a way to practice fit off this ****. Btw Book and Chapter could have made for a much cooler title for this thread. |
Re: The Book Chapter Begins
Good luck to the guy, I hope he does well for us but what a lot of pressure on such young shoulders!
We've really done something this season to upset the football Gods! Although, we were supposed to get thrashed in our last game as I recall, so who knows! GEAUX SAINTS! WHO DAT! |
Re: The Book Chapter Begins
This is almost going to be a 4th quarter of a preseason game for us. Ian Book at QB and let’s look at the O-Line:
LT- James Hurst LG- Calvin Throckmorton C-Eric McCoy RG- Cesar Ruiz RT- Caleb Benenoch Are we going to protect him by using more 12 personnel? Nope… Nick Vannett is the only TE we have available. |

Re: The Book Chapter Begins
Maybe we could run some trick plays where we make our tackles or guards eligible. They are likely to be ‘open’ on most plays where our receivers wont be. They are likely to get a lot of separation.

Don’t let Guido see that or he will argue that it doesn’t happen. I made the same statement last year before we played the Eagles. And the year before that, and the year before that. Our defense just can’t defend rookie/backup/****ty Qb it seems. |
Re: The Book Chapter Begins
With that oline...Its gonna be a bloodbath...

Re: The Book Chapter Begins
I think our defense will play a good if not great game, and just like a rookie pitcher in baseball getting good run support, make Book's job easier and let him manage the game and not have to do too much. He doesn't have to put up 300+ yards and 3+ TD's - though if the game trends in that direction and the Dolphins can't figure him out, he's certainly welcome to!

Re: The Book Chapter Begins
I wonder what they'll put on his grave stone. The dude is going to be hit so many times he's not going to know which direction the offense should be going. Our line is still going to be porous and we're still not going to have anyone to throw it to. I feel sorry for the guy. We may win this game, but if we do it'll be another defensive effort. I don't think Book is the guy, but as I said for the other two guys that played, this game will not be a fair evaluation of him so after things go terrible for him I won't be too critical.

I feel like this is going to be a page turner in this next chapter of the Saints QB room.

Re: The Book Chapter Begins
I’ve been looking at some of Book’s games at Notre Dame and the first word that comes to mind watching him play is skittish. I see a lot of making one read and taking off running if it isn’t open.
Ordinary, that would be a bad thing but it might work in his favor tomorrow night because no-one will be open. |

Re: The Book Chapter Begins
I think our WR's aren't quite getting a fair shake here. In the games I have seen in person we've consistently had open receivers, but perhaps not those that have been the first read. Between Siemian and Hill neither have shown much of an ability to make it through the progressions. On many occasions where the read has been wide open the pass has missed the target.
Brees made us extremely spoiled. Winston was better at it than what we have now. Book is the unknown. |

Look for Alvin. If that's not there, run like hell. Do that a few times. Get comfortable. Ease into it. Play smart. Execute the plan. No whammies.

Re: The Book Chapter Begins
My pop (while drinking and fighting like a good Irishman) watched Book a lot at Norte Dame. He commented to me on how good his scrambling/running is.
I says to him I says, “ Surely father you don’t think Book can run better than Hill do ya?” Me father says to me “One thing to remember lad...don’t call me Shirley!”. Then he said Book can’t outrun Hill, but he can “selectively scramble” better than he does. |

Re: The Book Chapter Begins
The kid had no chance. At least the D, Kamara and Humphrey tried for him.
Everyone else can…. I dunno. |

Re: The Book Chapter Begins
Book performed as best he could considering the amount of talent out and the lack of time to prepare.
What really annoyed me is the O line, Ruiz and whoever was at RT in the first quarter, allowed multiple free rushers right at Ian and then whilst the poor kid is picking himself off the floor, Ruiz and this guy are just pointing at each other about blocking assignments. I'd like Ian to start the next 2 games, but he needs some help on offense and I don't want him to get disheartened. Ruiz needs to go, such a reach in the first round, just like Peat. |
