I’m going to be hesitant to criticize Ian Book given the circumstances, but every concern I had about him coming out of college has reared it’s ugly head tonight.

We have 7th string tackles playing right now.

You just don't have a legitimate chance to compete.

Wow. that’s some ugly line play.

True but the front office did nothing to improve the offense this offseason. We didn’t draft an offensive player until the 4th round (Book) and made no attempt in free agency either to help out the offense.

Book needs to learn to throw the ball away

Book does not know he can throw the ball away?

True enough. Although I think they were handcuffed by salary cap, and Thomas really screwed them. I don’t think they intentionally neglected the O.

It's never intentional. Everyone wants to win.

As one of the resident old guys here, agreed. But at least then you kind of expected it.

Very paranoid in the pocket (our O-Line tonight is only compounding that issue.) If the first read isn’t there he just starts running around. He doesn’t step up in the pocket and keep his eyes down the field.

Give him a break. This is the mad scientist's first experiment with Ian Book. Give him time to establish his QB development sills as the QB whisperer. He might look better next time out. Under the under the difficult circumstances Books looked somewhat promising.

I'm hoping we re-sign Winston next year and develop Ian Book.

I never saw Ian Book look at his laptop obsessively tonight like Drew always studied the game. On the other hand, Cee Dee doesn't need to send Book a new lap top. Like one for Brady that will surely need when he plays the Saints again.

Brian Griese and the rest of the gang are laying it on a little thick in the booth though ...

"Tua is putting on a statement game". He's literally competing against a half-empty Saints roster.

Those were some of mine. Plus his balls need more arch on them. He’s gonna get a lot of batted passes. He was a 6th or 7th rounder we over reached for

Everyone is entitled to their opinion Sinner. It’s like picking the worst thing you’ve ever eaten. But if this game was a meal, it’s hardly the worst game the Saints have cooked up for me.

Same.

Even with a good O-line, I do not expect Ian to save us at Qb. He needs a ton of work.

I'm hopeful Jameis re-signs in 2022. If not, gotta get a vet QB that has been battle-tested.

Rugby Saint II 12-27-2021 10:06 PM

Re: GAMEDAY THREAD - SAINTS VS. Dolphins

Book just hasn't had a real opportunity. No O-line and no WR's. What are you going to do?

Shucks, I’m 6 foot 1 285lbs. Maybe I’ll try out for O line

Jameis is the cheapest and best short term possibly long term option. Rodgers and Wilson will cost WAY too much for next year. We got big decisions to make with players to throw a 25+Mil contract in the mix

Rsanders24 12-27-2021 10:12 PM

Re: GAMEDAY THREAD - SAINTS VS. Dolphins

All the QBs have dealt with the same thing…no WRs and an oft-injured oline.

At the end of the day, with all that being equal, Winston had us at competitive. Take it how you want but no other QB in house is an option to start next year.

Ruiz needs to be gone.
A liability

Re: GAMEDAY THREAD - SAINTS VS. Dolphins

Far from the ugliest Saints game ever. There was a time that offense was this bad as well as defense. I have been hesitant all year about claiming how good this defense is but tonight it’s clear this is a playoff caliber defense that just had no help on the other side tonight. It’s not over yet this team still has a small chance to get to the tournament and I for one want to see them there. We see with the NFL ridiculous Covid rules that a game can turn quickly. How about Saints in Dallas round 1 and 2-3 days before the game Dallas is hit with the same situation. This is a year you just never know and definitely a year you just need to get there and see what happens. Yes this ugly but you keep chugging forward and hope for the best.
