It’s not over yet this team still has a small chance to get to the tournament and I for one want to see them there. We see with the NFL ridiculous Covid rules that a game can turn quickly. How about Saints in Dallas round 1 and 2-3 days before the game Dallas is hit with the same situation. This is a year you just never know and definitely a year you just need to get there and see what happens. Yes this ugly but you keep chugging forward and hope for the best.

UGLY THOUGH. UG-LY.

A liability

Glad it isn't just me who sees this. He's been very underwhelming all season. I know it's only year 2 but I've never been impressed.

He's a human turnstile at guard & approaching bust material for me.

Undrafted, 7th round guys can't help.

No one knows what type of player we'll get from Michael Thomas next season.

you dont know what type of player we will get from any of the draft picks too MT is WAaaaay more for sure than ANY rookie coming out. Humphrey and Callaway are good wr the Oline is the BIGGEST issue followed by WR then DT. Payton doesnt trust young guys vs vets hes going to go with a vet every time it takes him a little longer to trust younger players that why we still have Trequan or Kenny Stills or Ted GInn when we had him. WR corp isnt as bad as many make it out to seem def could use some upgrades tho

We've got a LOT of work to do on the Offense. Injuries, Covid, blah blah.

Going to be an interesting off season. At least it needs to be. Top to bottom, left tackle to right, WR, TE, QB. We're a mess.

I would agree but tonight having Book in there the whole time and throwing the ball more than running shows he still has that bit of ego that he is the QB whisperer. Maybe if the kid had more time to throw it would have been different, but who knows?

At the end of the day, with all that being equal, Winston had us at competitive. Take it how you want but no other QB in house is an option to start next year.

Jameis is option numero uno

I’ve been very patient with Ruiz, but I am officially 100% finished with him. It’s one thing to lose reps here and there, but he’s constantly allowing free rushers to run right by him like he has no idea what his blocking assignment is. He’s even worse than Peat. At least Peat can get out in space and bulldoze guys when he’s pulling or on a screen. Ruiz is just clueless and weak.

Take away the pick 6 behind a make shift line I thought Book did a fine job surviving the night. No fumbles on the sacks he took tonight , just holding on to the ball was admirable. No wr showed up consistantly other than Calloway. No run game to speak of( make shift O-line). He had no chance. I wouldn't evaluate Book on this game. I would like to see him not holding onto the ball when he could save yds. instead of taking a useless sack, that part is on him but totally correctable.

I have just not been optimistic about the team this year. I've been ore of a realist with an understanding of the team getting under the salary cap in the offseason as well as the talent we lost. We started our season out by running from a Hurricane, playing our first home game on the road, a 6 game suspension for Onyamata, Winston is lost for the season, and injuries have a an impact on the team performance.

However, I can't get over this team's non stop spirit and energy.

Sound like you did agree or didnt read my full post before responding either way Ian Book looked no worse than Taysom or Trevor and Seans playcalling wasnt the best tonight totally understand the circumstances but it is what it is.

I'm just saying Ian Book is a young guy and seemed like Payton had enough confidence that Payton could make him successful that he didn't think he needed to trust Ingram and Kamara take the game instead of all the pass plays. You're right, though, about all the WR problems this season.

Sean Payton’s play calling has been predictable and vanilla. Has been for a couple years to be honest

Gotta give the Dolphins coach some credit for getting his team into seven straight wins.

IMO that is because he was handicapped by Brees' inability to throw the deep pass.

This was a game where you couldn’t play behind the chains or turn the ball over. The pick 6 was huge even though it occurred early. No question Book cannot be judged on this game with that O-Line. The NFL put the Saints in a terrible situation with this game with there BS Covid rules. Regardless of who was playing tonight any team with 21 players missing should have had opportunity to move game like Cleveland the week before. Don’t be surprised to see games moved this weekend. I don’t necessarily believe the NFL is against the Saints I just believe the NFL has elected to let the government make the decisions for the with these CoVid rules. If your are asymptomatic get out there and play.

20 or more people out with Covid protocol, I would expect no less from a fourth round rookie quarterback. Can’t give up on him just yet but it definitely showed he will not be ready anytime soon

Also half the offensive line probably didn't even know the protections.

If all of those players were in fact fully vaccinated an Asymptomatic I dont understand why they aren't playing. NFL is definitely agaisnt the Saints then one of the announcers tried to down play 21 players being out with Covid because Indy won with a few players out. I guess your back ups should be first rounders as well

Did it? Taysom threw FOUR INTS in one of the losses out of 5. None of the QBs had to deal with this level of oline. Book def left some plays on the field, but I dont feel like either Taysom or Trevor are any truly better options. Taysom may have converted some first downs but I dont know if he could have won with this OLine who MISSED on every blitz pick up or damn near

My biggest criticism is not throwing the ball away and taking sacks. But also I read all along he is a running QB, and I saw no sign of that tonight.

Dude, I like Book. He didn't get a fair shake tonight. I'd like to see what he has and give him the nod the rest of the season.

Re: GAMEDAY THREAD - SAINTS VS. Dolphins

Look I’m not a big fan of Taysom as quarterback but right now he’s your best option because of the threat he brings as a runner. Is he a better passer than book right now, absolutely, but he’s not the answer long term but this years playoff run is not long term it’s two more games and hopefully more. As I said on an earlier post I’ve been watching these guys since the late 70’s and went a long time without a playoff appearance much less a playoff win so I still appreciate just getting there. Any saints football I can get I will take. Just get there baby!!!

Joe Montana would have looked like Joe Mantegna tonight.

I'll wait for Coach Payton to watch the tape and give his real assessment on former 1st rounder Cesar Ruiz. I didn't even like him at center.

No sugar coating here but this guy is a trash can offensive lineman. He has no business starting on this line.

Substitute Dallas/Packers/Patriots for the Saints tonight and the league would have postponed this game so fast it would have made your head spin!

I've actually thought Ruiz showed some real promise in the run game when the rest of the line was healthy. The last few games, especially in pass protection, he's REALLY struggled. I'm not ready to give up on him yet.

I'd leave Book in for the next two.
Wasn't fair on him tonight, he was far from perfect and definitely should have thrown the ball away a few times. But his arm looks better than Hill, he also looked far less hesitant to move that Hill often does when in the pocket.

End of the day the playoffs look done, Hill isn't the answer going forward, obviously Trevor isn't either. See what Book has with a proper line. Love Kwon in the team but again I'd be starting Werner. It's all about next year now

YEP! Look at the rest of the year as a jump on next year's preseason!
