Having division games to start and finish the season makes so much sense and does away with some unnecessary inventive creativity we see in some of these schedules...
(Division Home/Division Away/Division Home) to start and (Division Away/Division Home/Division Away) and alternating every year simplifies scheduling... Rec leagues employ this formula so why can't the NFL?!? |

Simple answer, because NFL venues host many more lucrative events that need to be worked around in the schedule than does the average rec league. They have explained this fact as one of the main determining factors in the construction of the schedule.
