But you're right, he cannot contractually go elsewhere to coach for five more years. And why would he, right? He's got more power over operations in New Orleans than he could have anywhere else. He has a roster that can win now. |

Ian Fullacrap is just that.
Saints, Sean Payton agree to five-year contract extension John Sigler September 15, 2019 1:03 pm CT The New Orleans Saints and head coach Sean Payton have agreed to terms on a five-year contract extension to keep him in town through the 2026 season, as first reported by Jay Glazer of FOX Sports. Payton previously inked a five-year extension in March 2016, which was set to expire in 2021. |

Re: Payton to take a year off?
They want the saints to not be relevant. They thought when Drew left we’d return to the bag saints but it didn’t happen like they wanted. Minus Jameis and couple other guys injuries, this team would have home field. They now know Sean can really coach. We knew this but they didn’t. He’s not going nowhere. To think Sean would put up with Jerry or Mark Davis is a joke.

Re: Payton to take a year off?
I don't know much about how contracts work with NFL coaches, but if Sean wanted to coach somewhere else I would have to assume when he did his latest deal that an escape clause was included. I do believe he would not coach anywhere else immediately and would take some time off if needed.
