That doesn't mean it was in concrete WHEN the changeover was going to happen. Sean said he took a week to finalize his decision and I'm going to give him the benefit of doubt. He didn't go next after management/ownership to the OC, STC or any other coach just DA. Which to me was probably "here's the keys guy" situation. That's just how I see it. Time will tell.
Yeah, I realized I sort of missed your point after I made my post. I think you mean it was telling that he mentioned Allen third. That seems like it means Payton endorses him.

I think it was pretty sudden for some of the staff. I heard Streif say that they found out 30 minutes before the press conference. Obviously Loomis and Mrs Benson knew about it before but they made it sound like they kept it very close to the vest until the very last minute. He said he was picking Brees brain about broadcasting the night before.
Payton mentioned he was thinking about taking a break during training camp.

He took two weeks to finalize that decision according to Jay Glazer. The two weeks he spent in Cabo with Skylene. Both Glazer and Payton said he had discussed going ahead and stepping down with Gayle and Loomis and Gayle said to take a couple of more days to think about it when the time came. Then came the two weeks of partying on the beach. When he said he finally shared his final decision with Benson, then Loomis, then Dennis, I immediately thought Lauscha, as well. In affect, those are his only true "bosses" there.

That's where I got tripped up to, but I think Sean was referring to Dennis Lauscha Saints President.

Re: Head Coach Search

If I were some of you I would stop looking so hard at the card you want to play and look at the cards that have been played.

Dennis Allen is 8-28 as a head coach. I don’t care where or why I care that in three seasons he could not break .250 as a Head Coach. The Raiders were 8-8 the season before he arrived and 7-9 the season after he left.

Moving Dennis Allen to HC f***s with our defense. STOP f***ing with a great defense. We are going to NEED the continuity of Allen+his defense to get us through the teething pains of a new HC, QB, and offensive game plan. The defense is the ONLY stable piece to our puzzle.

Totally agree. Allen has been the only DC given decent players in the draft and good FA under Payton. No other DC ever got that under Payton. As a HC (as you stated) Allen failed miserably. I would look elsewhere for a HC and let Allen stay as the DC.

That's all good and fine IF Dennis Allen was willing and able to remain as DC with someone else on the staff assuming HC duties. Or, able to remain on as DC if someone from the outside assumes those duties. I cannot remember a time that a team brought in a HC from elsewhere and kept the prior HC's staff in place. It could have happened, but not to my knowledge.
