So, Payton can’t coach another team until/unless the Saints give permission while he is under contract, correct?

Not necessarily, contractually he owes the team remaining years on contract, so if he takes time off and gets an offer, say Dallas, then the Saints have to release his rights...

Gruden going to TB got the Raiders two first round picks; gotta believe that's the start of the compensation package...

Unless we "trade" his rights is how I understand it.
