Your dream coach
If you could have any coach in the league who would you pick. Obviously a few coaches like Reed are untouchable considering how their teams are built. There are others that could be lured away from their current teams if the F.O. threw enough money at them and bought out their contract. Pete Carrol is one that comes to mind. Obviously we aren’t the most attractive team right now given our cap and Qb situation along with where we are in the draft. Most new coaches have a top 5-10 draft pick in their pocket because teams with high picks don’t typically **** can their coaches. Wonder how sold BB is on Jones.
The turd in the punch bowl this year is that we don’t have the picks to work with if there were to be a trade. We also have some big holes to fill on offense which makes us look even less attractive. I suspect our next coach will be a lame duck candidate. If he succeeds, great, if not we can bide our time until we are in a situation to make such a move. I seriously doubt money would be the issue here. |

Was never a Pittsburgh fan and at the time couldn't stand Bill (spit-boy) Cowher.
When Mike Tomlin came in everything changed in that organization. I would love to see him Coach in New Orleans. |

Re: Your dream coach
The reality is you don't wanna hire an established name. It simply costs too much. Besides, SP was not an established name when hired, but he became one as his career record exemplifies. There is someone out there worthy if management does their due diligence. Is it Allen, Carmichael , another on another team, who knows? We'll just be spectators and armchair QBs in assessing and giving our opinions. It's probably time for new blood. Shall we promote from within? It worked out for the Steelers a few times.

Re: Your dream coach
Tom Brady. He is very very competitive, smart, can call plays, and learned from the best. I generally would like us to follow the New England model of managing the cap carefully, selectively trading away some veterans or not extending them all, getting more comp picks, and trading back in the draft, and Tom is familiar with that model. He loves to compete and his wife hates to see him get hit, so coaching is a way to compete without getting hit, and he could compete with Belichick and Arians as a coach. He is also good at recruiting players. We wont be great next year anyway with cap issues and no qb so I would be willing to let him learn on the job. Recently retired stars have become very successful coaches in many sports, though not many too recently in football, But I think it could work. He was willing to come here to replace Brees. Why not Payton? And heck we are looking at Leftwich, but is it is not reasonable to argue that Tom Brady may have been the one running Tampas offense the past two years more than Leftwich?

Re: Your dream coach
If I had my choice I would still rather have Payton. Oh well, he's ready to move on and see new challenges. I could live with Kris Richards as HC though! He did a wonderful job with our secondary after Glenn left.

Honestly, tanking is a fan concept. It's something true competitors would never consider. Personally, I want nothing but true competitors connected with the team that I love. :bng: |

Totally agree. As a Lakers fan we had a few tanking years in the 2010's, and even after a championship, a bit of that spectre still looms. I just watched the "Battered Bastards of Baseball" documentary this morning. If you need proof that playing hard and having your heart in the game matters, for both the players and the fans, that's your proof. |

Granted, this notion might be a stupid one and he might not even turn out to be a good pro athlete, but how great would it be to have another Manning as a franchise QB?! |

Lots of teams tank. It happens every year. It's not a fan concept, it's a strategy, and "tanking", as fanboys like you call it, has been the foundation for many a championship run. |
