Re: Marcus Maye signed
True, but i’d say his signing now makes it more likely/needed to draft WR and O line help than a safety early.

Re: Marcus Maye signed
I've watched as much film on Maye as I could find. Marcus Maye is a better tackler than Marcus Williams. Marcus Williams is better in coverage than Marcus Maye. Talent wise, I think they're comparable. Maye is just a little faster. Williams might be a little quicker and more explosive. Off top I'd say Maye is a very minor downgrade with the potential to be just as good or better under the tutelage of Allen.
I think the "issues" with Marcus Maye in coverage are more related to coaching than they are ability. Maye looks a lot more instinctive while Williams looks well coached. Maye lets people eat up too much cushion while Williams keeps a little more distance between himself and the receiver. Again, I think that's something Dennis Allen can EASILY fix in training camp. If Maye keeps routes comfortably in front of him we'll see him end up with 5 or more interceptions this year. What I was looking to see is if he had the range to play single high safety in Cover 1 and Cover 3. I saw enough to say yes, I'm comfortable with him in these coverages. He's not better at it then Williams, but he's better at everything else. He can do a lot more than Williams can. He's more akin to Chauncey Gardner-Johnson than Williams to be honest. The only thing he has to work on is keeping routes in front of him. He's flipping his hips too late. I give this pick up a B+ as of right now. |

This is A+ for me. Cheaper and does not whiff on tackles. Our backfield combined with the front DE/DT is better than the J E T S. We'll see if he works out to be as good a pick up as our now vaunted LB also from the J E T S . | |
