He graded out really well multiple times. I haven’t put my eyes on his film though. I’ll come back and let y’all know what I think for real, for real.

Interestingly it might seem that Sean Payton was no the source of some of our past player selection transgressions.

Are you kidding? Malcolm Jenkins is an absolute liability in the secondary...

We either need a DB to allow Gardner to move to SS or we need a young safety to replace Jenkins...

I'd release Malcolm Jenkins and use that salary slot on Honey Badger if it work...

Can't complain about the price. The health and baggage are concerning but good player nonetheless. I hope this works out in our favor.

Releasing Jenkins would only free $3.8M in cap space and would add $7.9M in dead money to the books for 2022.

Jenkins - Spotrac

I remember the DUI incident but wasn't aware of Achilles injury.

Oof

But for what it's worth, when Saints acquire former JETS players ... they are absolute ballers.

Negative. Designate a post June 1 and that is not the dead cap number. You might know that if your strength wasn’t just transferring someone else’s work from one url to another..

So what you're saying is... minnihaha miracle and other similar plays are a thing of the past now with this talent? :bng:

Honestly speaking, I don't think Alllen & co have any plans to bring in the Honey Badger at any price.

Fasho. Slightly faster than Williams and a much better tackler. Didn't break the bank.

The only thing I'm a little concerned with the DUI (court date set later this summer). Surely he's gonna sit for at least 3 games right?

No way Roger doesn't suspend him in 2022. I think Deonte' had to sit 3 last season. Maybe 4.

They just might since SP retired. We'll soon see how they treat the LSU football talent pipeline now.

True, but i’d say his signing now makes it more likely/needed to draft WR and O line help than a safety early.

Re: Marcus Maye signed

I've watched as much film on Maye as I could find. Marcus Maye is a better tackler than Marcus Williams. Marcus Williams is better in coverage than Marcus Maye. Talent wise, I think they're comparable. Maye is just a little faster. Williams might be a little quicker and more explosive. Off top I'd say Maye is a very minor downgrade with the potential to be just as good or better under the tutelage of Allen.

I think the "issues" with Marcus Maye in coverage are more related to coaching than they are ability. Maye looks a lot more instinctive while Williams looks well coached. Maye lets people eat up too much cushion while Williams keeps a little more distance between himself and the receiver. Again, I think that's something Dennis Allen can EASILY fix in training camp. If Maye keeps routes comfortably in front of him we'll see him end up with 5 or more interceptions this year.

What I was looking to see is if he had the range to play single high safety in Cover 1 and Cover 3. I saw enough to say yes, I'm comfortable with him in these coverages. He's not better at it then Williams, but he's better at everything else. He can do a lot more than Williams can. He's more akin to Chauncey Gardner-Johnson than Williams to be honest. The only thing he has to work on is keeping routes in front of him. He's flipping his hips too late.

I give this pick up a B+ as of right now.

Well, based upon that it doesn't look like we have lost a single player thus far that makes our roster less formidable than last season. Armstead is the only other significant player that we can possibly lose that cannot be easily replaced depending upon what happens with the Watson deal, don't you think?

It's like a recruit to Bama is a 5 star, except when he commits to LSU... he's then a 3 star.

This is A+ for me. Cheaper and does not whiff on tackles. Our backfield combined with the front DE/DT is better than the J E T S. We'll see if he works out to be as good a pick up as our now vaunted LB also from the J E T S .

I definitely believe he has A+ potential. All the talent is there. He just needs to stay healthy and keep a little more depth when he's playing that single high safety position. Other than that he's really good at everything else. He can even provide underneath coverage and handle people in the slot.

Re: Marcus Maye signed

I understand he’s 29 however I believe he has room for growth with Kris Richard in the building.

Maye will be a solid asset to our secondary.

Not his fault he spent years playing for a bad JETS franchise.

Replacing Marcus with Marcus, at the same position - it's kind of like having two successive girlfriends with the same first name!

Marcus Maye should help this secondary remain dominant. We've got the coaches to help him grow into this system. I probably won't even miss Marcus Wiliams now that we have Marcus Maye.
