QB Andy Dalton Signed

One year deal.

Bortles is a camp body or cut altogether.

I guess we can stop with the "drafting a QB" talk.

Tell Kiper that. I’m sure he’ll still have us going QB in the first

Good. And a respected guy in the locker room & can win you a few games.

Legit #2 @ QB.

As much as I love Book, probably a good move. Gotta cover our bases in the event Jameis' knee isn't quite right and needs more time (hopefully not though). Might as well put Book on the practice squad though. The idea of carrying 3 QB's + Taysom would be pretty stupid.

Ok good move! Much better 2nd QB than Trevor.

Re: QB Andy Dalton Signed

Good value signing. Another upside to this is that if Winston is healthy and Dalton looks good in preseason, the contract is very tradeable if another team has a QB injury. We get insurance if Winston is hurt and potentially a mid-round draft pick if he isn't. Also we might get a comp pick if Dalton flashes good ability and gets a better contract next offseason, though with our receivers I am not sure that happens.

I’m fine with the Dalton signing, but I think Trevor had very little help and was a bit of a scapegoat. If the D would have shown up in the Atl and Tenn games the way they did in other games then Trevor is eating those 2 Ws.

I really really like this move. That's about as solid as a backup you can hope for. I really do belive this mean Taysom Hill's days as a QB are done. Atleast with the Saints.

I agree with everyone here, but I'll have to say I didn't see it coming. But then again I didn't see the trade for Jameis coming either.

Agreed. I think he was also the victim of an injured O-line. When he came on in relief in that last game he didn't look bad because he had time to throw.

I agree. Always liked the guy. He’s a player I could see resurrecting his career under the right circumstances if he has to step in. Kind of like Kurt Warner did, except a poor man’s version of the same scenario. I definitely think he’s a guy who could keep us rolling as long as our defense is holding its own.
Our receiver situation is still baffling but what do I know.

Another benefit is Dalton will be a great vet for Book to learn from. Not that Jameis isn't a good mentor, but Dalton's been in the league longer and seen more.

My wife and sons are all gingers. The ex-Saints QB and ginger, Billy Joe Tolliver, told my older son (about five at the time) at a Shreveport Pirates (CFL) practice that, "Us redheads got to look out for each other. Don't forget that sunscreen."

Is Book that #3 slot? Or do they jettison him to draft a QB? What are the 90 man roster QB's? Where does Bortles fit this off-season?

And should have more time for Book. Winston will always have to focus mostly on himself as the starter.

You have 14 Offensive Linemen (7 tackles, 4 guards, and 3 centers).. What are you adding?

Winston goes down, Dalton hasn't played 16 games since 2016. Since 2015 Dalton has had 4 injuries to the hands/wrists and fantasy predicts a 21% (Higher than Winston 19.2%) chance he will get injured this season if he plays. Leaves you with Book and no one.

Winston is on a 2 year deal, Dalton is on 1 year deal, would it be prudent to have someone other than Book behind?

I bet Godhell likes his hair color. Maybe he'll take a break from screwing us over. Nah! Just kidding. We all know he won't be happy until the Saints are sold and moved and we won't be happy until he resigns in disgrace.

Re: QB Andy Dalton Signed

Don't forget how competitive Dalton is. When Cincy drafted JB, Dalton made it a point to let everyone know that he wasnt going to roll over and hand the job over to the new kid. He still thinks he can be a starter.

The supposed threshold is $3 million per year to pertain to the compensatory pick calculations. I say "supposed" because there is nothing firmly defined. Dalton's deal "could be worth up to $6 million in incentives", but supposedly guarantees $3 million. So, yes, there is the possibility it could come into play.

I also heard someone yesterday on NFL Radio say that Trevor Siemian's deal with the Bears could possibly be counted toward the Saints somehow, as well. His deal only averages $2 million, so, who knows?

Here's overthecap.com's guesstimate of the 2023 picks based upon signings so far. It includes both Dalton and Siemian in the chart. The Saints can be found under NFCS.

And that sir is the exact MINDSET you want from a #2 player.

Glad Dalton is on board.

And the Saints cannot be sold until Gayle passes on and as healthy as she appears she'll likely outlive Goodell himself.
