If Maye fully recovers, he'd have the best range on the backend of the defense; maybe while he still recovers we see some cover 2 with Sorensen...

Can also see Roby moving to the nickel with Gardner taking over at SS...

He's played extensively at both positions and may be better suited to play SS now given his Achilles injury. He also came discounted so I really don't money plays much of a factor here. IMO CJ has more range is better suited playing FS. Maye has played a large amount of his snaps in the box under Saleh making him better suited for SS. Honestly both have shown in the past they have the skillset for either position. We should be good back there regardless.

Nick sees Mayes as a possible replacement at SS for Jenkins pointing out that he played that position for NY the past two seasons.

We should not have let Jenkins go to Philly in the first place.

I think it was good for him and Payton that he got that time in Philly. I’m not sure he would ever have developed into the player he is had he stayed. If I remember correctly those were the days Payton was hell bent on building a defense like Seattle had without the personnel in place to do so. He was trying to fit players into roles that didn’t play to their strengths. When DA took over Payton stopped meddling with the defense and they got a lot better.
Still pisses me off that most of Brees good years were squandered by ****ty defenses.

Well dang it, this won't help our Buckeyes quota.

Man time flies. Losing both starting safeties is gonna hurt if for only the communication aspect.

He played well when he got some good coaching after moving. Thank god, Payton finally cleaned house of his old cronies. When push came to shove, after multiple 7-9 seasons, he stepped up and brought in fresh faces who helped develop players with proper coaching and a fresh perspective. He developed into a Super bowl winner while in two different cities.
I didn't always agree with his politics but he represented well. He knew he was losing a step and retired at a good time in his life after investing well for his family's future. Thanks for all you've done. Live long and prosper.

Will miss his leadership but believe it or not, we could upgrade his position this season
