Saints trade up to No. 11 to draft Ohio State receiver Chris Olave
1 Attachment(s)
Ohio State receiver Chris Olave could not stop smiling.
Olave was celebrating in the NFL draft’s green room in Las Vegas after his Buckeye teammate Garrett Wilson was selected at No. 10 by the New York Jets, and then his phone began to ring. https://bloximages.newyork1.vip.town...ze=1763%2C1175 New Orleans — a team that wasn’t supposed to be on the clock until No. 16. But in typical New Orleans Saints fashion, general manager Mickey Loomis traded up to No. 11 with the Washington Commanders. Advertisement "When I got the call right after my teammate got selected, that's when my dreams turned into realities," Olave said in a post-draft interview with local media, adding that he didn’t know the Saints were on the clock when they called. more on NOLA |

In a vacuum, we addressed exactly what we needed and we're a better football team.
I don't like the fact we're now down a 3rd and 4th round pick but if we come way with 3 impactful football players this draft, which we likely are, then it was a very successful draft. Very good player in Olave. |

It's hard to lose the 3rd and 4th outright in such a deep draft. But at least we have a solid history of getting usage out of undrafted rookie free agents. Also soon we will have the USFL and XFL to scout and use as a resource, so the landscape is changing.

Looks like the team is commited to Winston in the short term so let's get it done!
Welcome to Ohio State- South Campus!!!!! |
Re: Saints trade up to No. 11 to draft Ohio State receiver Chris Olave
So essentially the Saints gave up the 16, 98 & 120 to move up. Olave just looks so damn smooth, relaxed and composed. I understand the NFL is a different animal but he checks a lot of boxes translating to the Pros at a skill position.
Having potentially 2 impact players on rookie deals ? ... I'm ok with that. I hope that these two young men tear it up in the league. |

Dennis knows that this is his last rodeo as HC & he's aggressive. This is what teams do when they aren't filled in Free agency. Saints are essentially getting a high quality WR for 18M total over 4 years. Today's WRs are getting paid (see Kirk). On the surface, Olave at 11 is a good value. Stud WR & OTs are hard to come by at this level. My reasoning on "what we gave up" just comes from a different angle. 3+ years from now, we'll know if it was the right decision or not. But of course, I'm just a couch GM :p. |

The Saints must have really screwed up because they haven't drafted the guys I wanted them to for a long time this time they got 2 guys I wanted them to get... So I finally got it right or they screwed up.

Honestly, to see DA noticing the area weakest on our team was all I needed to see.
Payton would have once again left WR to UDFA's. At this stage, getting at least 2 (maybe 3) day 1 starters from the draft is a win in my book. I am concerned that we lost some leadership and talent in the defensive backfield, so I'm interested to see what happens regarding that. |

It's been rumored on some OSU boards that Olave was partially the reason why Jameson Williams transferred to Alabama.
Not sure it's valid but I found that interesting. Olave, Wilson & Williams. Man, they were stacked at WR. |

I'm coming around to this draft pick. I'm still salty about the capital we surrendered but yes we needed a stud WR. All signs point to Olave as the real deal.

Our team is loaded. If we get good QB play, we should be competing for a title. We are going to really miss Sean though. I kind of wonder if he wishes he would have hung around for another year.

I remember reading where Jay Glazer, a good friend of Payton's, saying he could tell from the previous off-season that Sean was no longer enjoying what he was doing. |
Re: Saints trade up to No. 11 to draft Ohio State receiver Chris Olave
It looks like Olave and Michael Thomas are already working out together. That has to be a good indicator of Thomas' readiness.

Steep price. High floor. Huge ceiling. I'll take it!
