Jameis Winston says “everything is going great” in his return from knee injury

Less than seven months after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, Jameis Winston is back on the practice field. He isn’t going full speed with everything yet, but it’s a good sign for the Saints quarterback in his bid to be fully healthy for Week 1.

Winston said his top priority now is strenthening the area around his meniscus.

Sims gives Jamay some props.

Wow. Torn ACL. Rehabbed religiously. And is now on the field with his teammates just six months later. Without a massive contract.

Interesting...

That's the same thing everybody wants for their team. A couple of bad asses...

Winston may be a bad ass too.

Word is that he's wearing a knee brace and walking with a noticeable limp.
Cause for concern of him rushing his rehab to get back?

If you were wearing that knee brace he's wearing you'd be limping too. :D It's one of those big assed ones like a lineman would wear.

it's been 9 months. I wouldn't call his rehab "rushed".

What matters is that he's there, with his team, setting the tone and being a leader.

MT however will be one to watch for the start of camp.

Not sure that’s right. Didn’t it happen October 31st? That’s seven months on my calendar not nine.

You're right. 7 months. Burrow's injury was worse and he came back around the same time frame. I heard it said somewhere that he didn't feel 100% until around mid season.

Here's the brace that Jameis is wearing in practice. It's hard to wear one without it affecting your normal gait while walking. It's less apparent when running or moving around quicker.

Seems that having no limp would be better than having a limp, whatever the reason.

It also seems that not having been injured would be better than having to rehab from injury.

The brace isn't to aid him in walking. It's purpose is to give added protection. I would think that it is better to have that protection, even if takes some getting use to (ie. limping a bit), than to not have the protection at all. He said he plans to wear a brace throughout the season. There are different braces that still give great support, but are less cumbersome that I would think he could move to later.

Moore's Law may soon apply to the advancement rate in Medical Technology as I've witnessed intensely these past eight months...

I just wish the part of Moore's Law that dealt with lowering cost applied, as well.

Let's hope it's applicable to all medical treatments.

I just hope he learns his lesson and stops running unless it's completely wide open. Take the check down or the sack.

You should see some of the stuff these reps are bringing through the hospital. Medical advancements are about to be ridiculous by 2030. But like Guido said, the cost will probably be just as ridiculous.

Maybe so. But Winston had broken through the initial rush and was clear to run had the tampon defender not made a play he KNOWS he’s not supposed to do. Josh Allen and Mahomes earn their living making plays like the one Winston was trying to make.

Yeah, I feel you at the time I mentioned given that the horse collar is almost always causes injury the penalty should be greater at least an ejection, fine, and possibly suspension.

Thing is... despite that play and how bad it looked, it was technically not a horse collar. The jersey was grabbed... and was grabbed strong enough so that Winston could not pull away. This portends to behoving a QB to realize his limitations and gracefully and uneventfully go down rather than attempt to fight through, somewhat like Aaron Rodgers does. We've seen over the years a number of players, and not just at the QB position, with an innate ability to feel tacklers and see them gracefully avoid them or go down sans injury. Maybe Jameis learned from this going forward.

Interesting take Smash. This site thinks it was a horse collar…

I agree with you about players being able to “sense” these things.

It was definitely a horse collar tackle. That's why the league fined Devin White $15,450 after reviewing the play.

They did call it... and it looked like it. Maybe the rule includes the top back part of the jersey. But technically a horse collar is when they grab higher at the neck opening of the jersey. I am glad they called it. Doesn't stop the QB from sensing this kind of threat and reacting in a non-injurious manner. If he stops resisting the tackle and goes/falls in the opposite direction, maybe he doesn't injure himself.

Re: Jameis Winston says “everything is going great” in his return from knee injury

All I know is that Devin White plays undisciplined and reckless (he launches with the crown & tackles after the whistle) football.

Kamara, Ingram, and Taysom would agree with me.

Especially against the Saints. Borderline dirty.

The rule was changed in 2016, I believe, to include the back of the jersey anywhere from the nameplate and up. Even if the player somehow senses a player behind them, they cannot know that player is going to make an illegal tackle that stops the upper body while allowing the legs to advance past the point of balance. Are you suggesting that anytime a player senses an opponent behind them that they immediately give up and go into a slide or such?

Perhaps I'm just not understanding.

That was my signature rugby tackle but after a safety review by the rugby union we no longer allow that tackle either. It was definitely time to retire from rugby because I'm all about living dangerously.:dunce:

Here is another example I'm going to use to show you are misguided in your assertion that I am always out to argue with you Guido. This is a James Winston thread. To my knowledge I have been in 100% agreement with you all along about his potential, his work ethic, his maturity etc. I want him as the Saints QB and think he is an excellent option. I've NEVER argued with you about him.

How does this jive with your assertion that I'm always out to argue with you?
