What he quit was the Saints. As far as how the team is composed, I’d give Jeff Ireland and Micky Loomis just as much credit for that, perhaps even more. Sean Payton didn’t bring in Tyrann Mathieu and Jarvis Landry. Sean Payton didn’t get Jameis Winston to re-sign. Sean Payton has obviously been plotting his way out for years now. Thanks for the Super Bowl, but the moment he goes to another team he’s an opp. We can revisit a love fest if he gets inducted into the HOF as a Saint.
Well that's only 3 players you mentioned and one of those was only in the building because Sean brought him here. You don't want to give him credit for the rest of our roster that's your right but I'll tell you this if we had been losing he sure would have taken the rap for it.

Those three additions are the only reason we’re getting any respect from anyone. Take away those three additions and nobody is taking us seriously. The roster composition started to trend upward with addition of Jeff Ireland in my opinion. I wouldn’t call our success in the early years a result of roster composition. I’d give more of that credit to Drew Brees being who he is and Sean Payton being young and innovative. Neither of those adjectives can describe him anymore. I’m scorned fam. I am not pleased with how he exited or with these rumors of him going to other teams as soon as next year.

I do like how you mentioned how he is op as soon as he goes to another team. Football is sort of a “if you are not for us you are against us” type business. It’s part of the reason I give “Pats” fans a hard time up here for still rooting for Brady. “He scorned your team” is my usual response to them. “How an you still pull for him?”.

Rumors are just rumors. Notice the "report" didn't quote Payton at all. It just mentioned some "unnamed source". No doubt writers are fishing for stories this time of year. Someone may have asked Payton if he'd consider returning to coaching. In fact, I would be shocked if he hasn't heard that numerous times. What would you expect him to say? "Sure. Eventually." How about with the Dolphins, Chargers, or Cowboys? "Who knows? Maybe some other team when I'm ready." Is there anything you would be looking for if you did decide to return to coaching? "Sure. Warm weather. I'd like a roster that could content, and I'd certainly like control over the roster."

That could most definitely be the case, but I have a gut feeling he’ll be back and coaching a team that’s not in New Orleans. If not one of those teams you mentioned, maybe one of the teams that drafts Bryce Young or CJ Stroud.

I just don't see Payton wanting the poison pill of joining a team that has been bad enough to have just fired their previous coach and is trading away multiple first round picks for his rights. I could, however, see him waiting for someone like Belichick or Pete Carroll to retire once his contract has cleared with the Saints.

If he returns before his contract with the Saints is up he probably won't have a pick available to get anyone like that. The Saints will demand the current year's 1st, at the very least. Maybe when Arch Manning enters the draft in 2025, however.

I gotta go on the record and say I’m not too big on Arch Manning.

Yeah. At this early stage the biggest thing he has going for him is his name. That's for certain.
