same old song

greetings followers of the patron saints of suffering.

life has been busy with getting married and issues of life that have kept me away from posting for a few months. it may be in a limited capacity but i hope to be chiming regularly again. here's my 3 game take:

after these last two losses i think many sunshiners are seeing that there is something inherently wrong with this team no matter what players are on the field. my beef before this season was "shake it up dammit, at least let's not keep losing the same friggin way." i praised the viking organization for the team transition and at least trying to reshape a team (similar to this one) with a modicum of defense. the results there are questionable but i still give their front office props for deciding to try and at least not keep repeating a pattern of failure by the same means.

what do we see here?
-brooks is what he is- a combination of out of the hat highlight plays and a staple for nfl follies. the pile of good stats cannot erase his propensity for critical errors. the national press has even picked up on his laughing and joking on the sidelines after screw-ups and in losses. i would like to see him and the coaches say they are going to make use of his legs like culpepper did after 2 bad weeks.
-i think deuce still has more than what we have seen. i think i could run a defense against this bland non-creative running game plan. many of his runs do look kinda slow motion though with that bent over stance.
-the receivers are good enough. a blossoming henderson would be a tremendous boon. i have seen the first signs of life in conwell this year since he has been here. the drops last week were disappointing but it is good to see him in the gameplan at all.
OL- gandy is still aging but at least not being penalized like last year. bentley and guards haven't been opening enough holes for deuce. jammal is the real deal and is here as long as we can keep him signed. pass protection has been erratic imo.
-the DL line, i have been asking where is the vaunted pass rush. yes some sacks last week but i am not seeing the expected pressure from our high profile DEs. the holes opened up in the middle when it is 3rd and 2ft leaves me shaking my head.
-LB: what LBs?? we might need to try some new defense. maybe a 5/6 with no LBs. it may be an improvement. i thought this may have been the worst unit in the nfl before the season. they have done nothing to dimish that. watson may have some talent to play outside. beyond that they are all role players at best. have you ever seen so many arm tackles, or er, attempted arm tackles?
DB- mackenzie is a gambler but i like what he brings. smith is in a similar mold, i do like the thought of him at SS better. he can hit on the runs. please get well soon fakhir. the explotation of craft with no help is painful to watch. we appreciated ya while you were here jay. a smart player like you might have a future in coaching. well, let's see if bullocks was worth taking over corey webster, kevin burnett, odell thurman, channing crowder, etc.
K- carney is still keepable for an old fart. berger still looks all-pro to me.
KR- thanks for the memories beerman. i won't be surprised to see donte have a couple of return td's. neither surprised if they are also called back for penalties.
Coaching- i thought new coaching could be good but i wasn't on the hang haz train. now i just think it is time. too much of the same thing, over and over. venturi sucks as bad as ever. why not stack the box and say you are gonna have to throw to beat us now. sad thing, it gets stacked sometime and still run over.
Front Office- i have been and am still on the run loomis out of town bandwagon. we need a football guy there, not a glorified beancounter.
Owner- national articles coming out how the other owners even think little of the old man. i only hope rita can be better.
Outlook- i have watched the saints since the flea ran back the first kickoff so i have to have hope. i am all for success in any shape, form, or fashion. what i think would be worst is a 9-6 wildcard with elimination in the first game. enough that the current regime might be kept again. with the shizophrenic personality of this team proven by history under haz anything from 4-12 to 12-4 is still possible. more likely? 8-8. i have my 4pack for the BR games. it'll be fun to drink beer in tiger stadium win or lose.
Silver Lining- i hope the hurricane tragedies prompt getting a new stadium and longterm security for the saints in louisiana rather than departure. Love Dem Saints! Fock Slimey Profiteering Owners! (80mil to 700mil investment return is enough doncha think?)

Excuse the length. Just the I'm back post.

well wishes to pak and all who have suffered loss in these past weeks.

Bengals | Thurman Named AFC Defensive Rookie of the Month
Thu, 29 Sep 2005 10:09:08 -0700

Mark Curnutte, of the Cincinnati Enquirer, reports Cincinnati Bengals LB Odell Thurman was named the AFC Defensive Rookie of the Month for September. Thurman led the Bengals with 26 tackles, and made 14 solo tackles, one interception, one pass defensed and one forced fumble.

I thought I had posted that he could very well become the defensive rookie of the year, but I cannot find the post to save my life. But hey, linebacker wasn't really an area of ne.......scratch that. X(

The waiting drove me mad....
I don't want to hear from those that know...
Everything has changed, absolutely nothing's changed

granted that jammal is the real deal and a keeper for 10+ years... but you can only wonder how the D would have looked with derrick johnson AND odell thurman onboard.
