Observation from the Saints win vs Chargers

First team looks ready. Hope it's not a false sense of security.

TQ misses and Merritt may have done enough.

Defense was stout other than one drive .

Hope the Penning injury is a minor one .

Even Ian Book looked above average. Maybe he's improving. Worth keeping on the practice squad at least.

Running game had 161 yards... Not had.

Winston and Dalton are SOLID.

AK looks like … well AK. Lutz is money 💰.

Juice just gets open … same goes for Olave.

Cuts are coming but I’d like to keep Merritt & Justin Evans.

Have a safe weekend everyone 🙏.

Don’t forget Blake!

Re: Observation from the Saints win vs Chargers

* The #1s looked sharp as a needle. The protection was good, there was running lanes, good throws by Winston. I like what I see.

* I think Ingram looked better than he has for quite some time, slightly more nible.

* The kicking game...I mean we got the right guys to do it.

* Tony Jones Jr should be the #3 RB.

* Krull hade some nice plays and seems to be going after it when runblocking.

* We got some good depth in the secondary. #30 Evans and #35 Gray had pretty nice games.

* "There were 69,089 fans in the Caesars Superdome for the Saints only home preseason game of 2022."
Quote from neworleanssaints.com, thats crazy! Seems like the fans are ready for the season too.

* Maye had som nice plays there close to the goalline sticking the RB.

* Taco Charlton showed some flashes of what he can do.

* Book showed progress. I don't know if its enough for him to make the team thou.

I think there will be some cuts coming that will be some tough cuts to come. There is a ton of talent on this roster. Especially at WR, DBs and DEs.

Landry just gets open, he and Winston already seemed comfortable with eachother.
Some very nice catches by Jarvis.

I thought Jameis looked great. Most of the time players coming off injury will say the right things to keep the media honest. But I truly believe Jameis when he said he’s not worried about his knee at all. His play last night and bouncing up from that big hit
made me a believer.

Reported Turf Toe injury. What's the healing time for something like this?

2-18 weeks 😝

Penning is headed to IR. The timing may prove opportune for a replacement as final cuts are around the corner. We may also bring back a recent OL cut.

We'll see... it's not it's like it's an achilles injury. Depending on severity, there is an outside chance for a return late n the football year.

Even if it's just in a limited "Strief" role as an extra lineman on some plays - it would be beneficial to his development.

Ask Mark Ingram how long it takes to come back from turf toe. My foot froze up following ankle replacement surgery and the biggest problem has been the turf toe that just won't heal fast enough. Get well soon big guy!

Team all looking good. Glad to get a win in preseason. It is still preseason. Reserving judgement till the real bullets fly.

Per the reports I've read, it's a completely torn ligament.

6 months minimum.

Ice up Trevor.

Re: Observation from the Saints win vs Chargers

I've just rewatched the play and it was such an unnecessary move made by Johnson.

His only job there is to seal the backside edge, but theres 2 things in play here;

- Penning basically took 2 players out of the equation due to his size anyway. There was 100% no need to dive low at anyone at all, by the time Johnson has dove, Ingram is already past him and in the end zone.
Why not just stand up and read the defenders, rather than just diving with no thought and taking out your own teammate?

- The ball was snapped on the 2 yard line and with Penning creating the shield he does, it's unlikely that the outside defender gets even close to Ingram in any way shape or form, when Ingram is only reading the A or B gap.

Such a stupid, unnecessary move that Johnson should lose game time for.

Ingram was diagnosed with Turf Toe December 4th 2011 Surgery in Jan 2012 then missed 5 games in 2013 for the same pedal area.

I found this and as you pointed out, it seems that it depends on the severity: "Grade 1 injuries may resolve partially or fully within one week. Grade 2 injuries may take around 2 weeks to resolve. Grade 3 injuries may require anywhere from 2 to 6 months before healing is complete."

So to Boston's point, expect him back sometime between Friday and February. :smokin:

I'm hoping for Friday but betting money on February. My guess is the Saints are too.

I thought the same exact thing when I watched the replay. Pissed me off.
