Re: Who Makes The Cut? --- List of cuts here as they announce them
Just curious, but what makes you say that? From my untrained eye Ellis has gotten better each year and looked pretty good this training camp. He has had a few flaws like his coverage that he's been better at. I like Baun but the poor fella' was drafted into the wrong system and we don't utilize him like he needs to be. We are trying to coach him up and we have the coaches to do that, but his ceiling is very low and I'm actually surprised that we didn't trade him this year.
It seems like we have a bad habit in the Saints front office of trying to change young players positions, but we aren't highly successful at it. Baun is another case of round peg/square hole. |

He did not seem to understand where the ball was going, or how to work in lanes to get to a runner. In pass coverage he seemed lost, as well. I tried to find some stats to back up what I'm writing. I couldn't find snap counts for this preseason. In three games played, where I thought it seemed Ellis played at least most of the first half each week, he had a total of 3 tackles. By comparison, Jon Bostic, who only played in two games, had 11 tackles. Bostic came into camp late and Ellis has been on the team for a few years. Eric Wilson had 11 tackles in his preseason snaps. Chase Hansen played in two games and had 8 tackles and an interception. |
