Week One - @ Failclowns
Saints open as early favorites against rival Falcons The two teams always play each other tough, though. By Chris Dunnells The 2022 NFL season is finally here. The New Orleans Saints (0-0) open Week 1 on the road against their division rival Atlanta Falcons (0-0). Currently, the Saints are favored by 5.5 points against the Falcons according to DraftKings Sportsbook. Considering home teams are generally favored by 3 points as a matter of course, these odds essentially think the Saints should be able to beat the Falcons by close to two possessions. Thinking back to each team’s respective offseasons, it’s not crazy to justify the Saints being favored this high. The Saints added (or are seeing the return of) high-powered offensive stars in Michael Thomas, Chris Olave, and Jarvis Landry, while the Falcons lost Calvin Ridley to a full-season suspension and Matt Ryan to a trade to the Indianapolis Colts. These two teams always play each other tightly, and the prevailing theory is that you can “throw the win-loss records out of the window” when trying to predict a winner, and considering there are no win-loss records yet, it makes this Sunday’s game even more chaotic. There’s always a reason we play the games. |

Re: Week One - @ Failclowns
Any doubt Saints fans outnumber Falcons fans this week in Atlanta?

Re: Week One - @ Failclowns
The Falcons gave up the 6th most rushing yards on the ground last year. I expect us to be able to take full advantage of that situation, especially with Deion Jones being out. Kamara and Ingram should control the game on the ground. They have AJ Terrell and Casey Hayward, Jr. on the outside at CB. I haven't looked into it, but I'm assuming they run a Zone heavy scheme based on the skill sets of those two players. Those are two good corners. I think Terrell is overrated, but still, they're far from bums. I look for Jarvis Landry to have a big game out of the slot. We should definitely be able to abuse their defense as a whole and put up 30+ points.
I do have concerns about dealing with their offense. They have two match up nightmares in Kyle Pitts and Cordarrelle Patterson. They also have a very, mobile QB who can rack up a lot of yards against a defense that loves to play man to man all game. We have to jump out ahead of them early and kill any momentum they may have playing at home. We have to force Mariota to be a pocket QB. All in all, I'm expecting us to win. However, this is a rivalry game and those can go either way. I'm excited to see how we look. We need to go into Atlanta and come out with a convincing win in Dennis Allen's regular season debut. This is an early-season must win in my opinion. |
