Something that the organization should have looked at more closely while Brees was still under center.

We were going to. Remember getting leap frogged by KC to get Mahomes? We were literally planning to draft Mahomes.

Sean would still be here. No doubt in my mind. Had we gotten Mahomes. We would also have another SB win under our belt by now. 1 pick ahead of us. 1 pick.

While appearing on Fox NFL Kickoff, former Saints coach Sean Payton told the story of when the Saints almost picked Mahomes with the No. 11 pick in the draft before the Chiefs traded up to take him at the No. 10 pick.

“The best quarterback I’d ever seen on college tape,” Payton said of Mahomes.

The former New Orleans coach also said Drew Brees was in the New Orleans draft room for the first time ever in 2017. Payton said selecting Mahomes wasn’t going to impact Brees, but he thought it was important that he told him they might take Mahomes.

Did they attempt to address it? Yes.
Did the try (put forth sweat equity and investment) to address it? No.

This is what KC gave up for Mahomes: Buffalo traded a first-round selection (10th) to Kansas City in exchange for Kansas City's first- and third-round selections (27th and 91st), as well as a first-round selection in 2018.)

That is trying to get a QB. Probably worth pointing out that in 2017 we picked Lattimore between Mahomes and Watson.

Mahomes would have had 3 years of a rookie deal under Drew and could have signed a bigger deal in 2020 as Drew finished his last year..

True Dat. But sometimes good things fall to you. Other times you have to be aggressive. However, people always complain about the Saints moving up in the daft. If we had moved up from eleven to ten to insure that we got him we would have been crucified for wasting picks on Mahomes.

You play the cards you're dealt.
