Why Not Start Taysom?
At this point, it can’t hurt. He has a 7-2 record as a starting quarterback. Who wouldn’t take that? That’s almost a 78% winning percentage. That’s even better than Mahomes, Brady, and Lamar Jackson. At this point, what have we got to lose, besides more games, which we’ve already gotten pretty good at that.

Re: Why Not Start Taysom?
Welcome back! It's been a minute since I've seen you post.
There's always more to winning percentages than the QB. Great defense, offensive playmakers, coaches. Taysom Hill is the 3rd best QB on this team and arguably the best player on the team at the same time. He seems to be a factor on many great plays. The "Joker" role is perfect for him and no one in the league is better at it than Taysom Hill. |

Re: Why Not Start Taysom?
Taysom suffered four season ending injuries in college. He was brittle in his early 20's so to expect him to tolerate high snap counts now is not realistic. His season ended in injury last year with both a concussion and a lisfranc foot injury. He is now 32 years old and being paid a minimum of $10 million a year for gadget plays that occasionally light up the scoreboard against weaker opponents. What we have to lose starting him is money if clauses in his contract to increase salary are triggered or an injury settlement is forced and time we could use evaluating players who have a future with this team as a contender. I love his play. He is amazing. When he has a big game it is electrifying. But if none of the QBs on the roster are the long term answer, at least Dalton and Winston have a style of play that makes us more able to evaluate our other skill position players and don't have big clauses in their contract that will escalate their pay. Also, Hill can contribute some at other positions until we can offload his disaster contract. Dalton and Winston can't. I wish Hill was Steve Young or something but he is not. The only thing he will consistently do is end seasons with injuries if he is used a lot.
If we steadfastly refuse to start Hill and appear to underutilize him but he has some big moments, it could actually work to our advantage in unloading his contract. If we create the impression he is underutilized, some team may trade for him before he gets hurt or has bad games. I am hoping we can bundle him in the trade when we trade Sean Payton. If Sean integrates him into the offense on his new team, that will increase the value of the picks we receive in return when he is inevitably injured, plus the salary he will take cannot be spent on other players to improve Sean's new team. |

Re: Why Not Start Taysom?
I’m with MJF. Why not Taysom. If you think for a minute he is the 3rd best Qb on this team you are wrong. He doesn’t have the arm of Winston, but a better field presence. He doesn’t have the experience Dalton does but has the athleticism Dalton is missing. He has the ability to extend plays and run when necessary, see Jalen Hurts and Marcus Mariota. No chance you can tell me either one of these guys are that much better than Hill. The guy has earned it so give him a shot.

Re: Why Not Start Taysom?
Although Taysom is exciting to watch I don't believe he is the answer at quarterback. He is however very valuable in the Joker role for the New Orleans Saints. I don't think that Dalton is the answer at quarterback. Nor is Winston looking like the answer. It's too bad we don't have a first-round draft pick next year with this good quarterback class coming out.
