The key here is that Sean Payton was able to make good use of him. He didn't work out as a full-time quarterback but he can throw the ball when he's not running over people. Sean Payton knew that this man has talent and worked him into the game plan...slowly working him in a little more each game

Re: LOVE LOVE LOVE me some Taysom Hill
The year before the Packer cut Joe Callahan after he had impressed coach Mike McCarthy. The Packers signed Callahan as an undrafted free agent in May and kept him on the 53-man roster out of training camp so as to not risk another team claiming him off waivers. Said Packers coach Mike McCarthy in September: "I mean, how the hell does he not make the team? It was clear. Just watch the games."
The Packers took a calculated risk when they put Callahan on waivers Thursday with the intent to put him on the practice squad. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Friday that coach Mike McCarthy and his staff believed he would pass through waivers and be re-signed to the practice squad. The Saints claimed him but wanted to move him to the practice squad. He had to clear waivers first. The Browns claimed him as soon as he hit the waiver wire. Callahan was resigned by the Packers the following season but was cut along with Taysom Hill. “I was watching the receiver (Max) McCaffrey,” Saints coach Sean Payton said in a teleconference Wednesday, “and we were looking at trying to find a way to maybe get him on our practice squad. And I kept seeing this Hill. I called (assistant general manager Jeff) Ireland in, we just kept watching the film and studied Max and then began studying Taysom and then I think in a very short amount of time, I imagine, you began to see some quick stroke, live arm, very athletic and can run — a lot of the traits you’re looking for. The more film we just kept watching the more we kept looking to find a reason not to (claim him) and we just trusted out instincts watching him play.” The rest as the saying goes "Is History"! |

The Saints traded linebacker K.D. Williams and a 3rd-round pick to Green Bay for Brooks and tight end Lamont Hall. Most memorable Brooks moment (good or bad)? A trade with Green Bay that did pay off was October 4, 2004 J.T. O'Sullivan and a second round pick in the 2005 NFL Draft were traded to the Green Bay Packers for Mike McKenzie. After the trade, O'Sullivan was inactive for 11 games as the third quarterback. |
